Lady Crusaders down Lady Dutch 47-38 in D9 League play

ST. MARYS – The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusader basketball team handed the St. Marys Area Lady Dutch squad a 47-38 District 9 League setback Saturday night at the ECCHS gym.
The Lady Crusaders outscored the Lady Dutch 12-7 in the first eight minutes of play and 12-7 in the second quarter to open a 24-14 halftime lead. They led by 11 at the end of three quarters, 33-22. The fourth quarter saw the Lady Dutch outscore ECC 16-14, making the final score 47-38.

Elkers win on Senior Night over Coudersport

The Ridgway boys basketball seniors have seen the team go from seasons with a losing record to the best record in District 9.
The eight seniors for the Elkers were honored Friday night and closed out the regular-season home slate with a 58-46 win over Coudersport.
The seniors are Eric Matheson, Jordan Lundin, Aaron Sorge, Kyle Kinkead, Alex Oknefski, Tyler Stark, Keith Zawatski and Damon Carlson.

Rovers knock off Ramettes on Senior Night

JOHNSONBURG – Brockway scored seven unanswered points in the final 65 seconds Friday night, including a fallaway jump shot from Juliana Vokes with four ticks on the clock for a 42-41 upset win over host Johnsonburg.
Down by a point entering the fourth quarter, Johnsonburg junior Brittany Watts shifted the lead to the Ramettes' favor with a layup at the 6:10 mark for a 35-34 lead.
With the Lady Rovers unable to break through on the other end, junior Rhianon Fowler hit a timely layup with 4:35 to play off an assist from Watts, who threw the ball back in as it was on its way out of bounds.

Breier has career night in Ridgway win

Ridgway girls basketball billed Senior Night as "Nicole Night" for the Lady Elkers' lone senior, Nicole Breier.
Breier had a career night and a victory to remember her night by.
Breier finished with 27 points as Ridgway won its first game of the season, 57-17 over Harmony.
"It was nice to win," Breier said. "It was my highest scoring game ever, that was exciting. I wasn't expecting it. I thought it would be a good game but I wasn't expecting us to win by that much."

Ridgway boys basketball rebounds with win over Kane, 81-39

Ridgway boys basketball rebounded after its first loss of the season with an 81-39 victory over Kane Wednesday night at Ridgway Area High School.
Ridgway coach Anthony Allegretto said it was a tough game to prepare for after the Tuesday night game against Johnsonburg. This was also a makeup game which was originally scheduled for Jan. 13 but was snowed out.
"It's tough to come out and play after having that big, huge game and the excitement of playing against one of the top teams in the district," Allegretto said.

Rams knock off undefeated Ridgway, 53-41

JOHNSONBURG – The third time is the charm in Johnsonburg.
The Rams (15-3) avenged two losses earlier in the season to previously undefeated Ridgway (18-1) Tuesday night with a 53-41 win in the Paper City.
Although Ridgway senior Eric Matheson led all scorers with 20 points on the night, the visiting Elkers were unable to stop the triple threat of Johnsonburg sophomores Cameron Grumley and Cole Peterson, and senior Mitchell Holmberg.
Grumley and Peterson finished with 17 and 16 points, respectively, while Holmberg put in 15 for the game.

Ramettes down Lady Elkers for third straight win

Johnsonburg girls basketball won 59-27 against the Ridgway Lady Elkers Tuesday night at Ridgway Area High School.
The Ramettes were led by the trio of Brittany Watts, Rhianon Fowler and Chelsea Benson, all three of them finished with more than 10 points. Fowler led the Ramettes with 18 points while Watts tallied 16 and Benson finished with 13 points.
"They've been stepping it up all year and hopefully it will continue," Johnsonburg coach Mike Zilkofski said.
A key second-quarter run opened the game up for Johnsonburg. Overall, the Ramettes outscored Ridgway 23-5 in the quarter.

Brookville Raiders roll past Crusaders 52-42

The Elk County Catholic Crusader basketball team was handed a 52-42 loss by the Brookville Raiders on Tuesday evening in a game played at ECCHS.
The Crusaders held a 7-4 lead after the first quarter. Brookville took over in the second quarter, outscoring ECC 15-6 to take a 19-13 lead at the half. The Crusaders closed the advantage slightly in the third quarter, outscoring the Raiders 18-15 to make the score 34-31 headed into the final period of play before Brookville put the game away with a strong fourth quarter.

Lady Crusaders improve to 17-2 with 50-31 win over Brookville

ST. MARYS – The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusader basketball team improved to 17-2 on the season with a 50-31 victory over the Brookville Lady Raiders Monday night at the ECCHS gym.
The Lady Crusaders were able to force 15 Brookville turnovers in the first 16 minutes of play to open a 25-9 halftime lead. Elk outscored Brookville 13-6 in the first period. The Lady Crusaders outscored the Lady Raiders 25-22 in the second half.
“I thought we played pretty well during the course of the game,” said ECCHS coach Ken Pistner. “We played real well defensively.”

Brookville wins Class AA team wrestling championship

DuBOIS – Ridgway wrestling lost 36-33 to Brookville in the District 9 team duals championships match Saturday afternoon at DuBois Area High School.
Brookville won seven of the 11 matches wrestled on the mat and eight of the 14 weight classes. The win serves as a redemption for Brookville who suffered a bitter defeat at the hands of the Elkers in the same spot one year ago.
