Kane wins turnover-laden game against Ramettes

JOHNSONBURG – Kane coach Dave Kiehl termed the game "sloppy" at times but his Lady Wolves rolled out of Johnsonburg in the snow Monday night with a 49-29 win, upping their record to 9-8 as they battle for favorable playoff positioning.
The Ramettes (5-12), shorthanded without two of their forwards, relied heavily on sophomore Nicole Myers as she paced all scorers with 17 points. The rest of the starting five notched just eight points while Emily Dillinger contributed two field goals off the bench.

Elkers win on Jeremy Breier buzzer-beater

Ridgway's trilogy of close games this past week ended in most dramatic fashion.
Ridgway junior Jeremy Breier hit a mid-range jumper at the buzzer to give the Elkers a 30-29 win over AML South foe DuBois Central Catholic Friday night at Ridgway Area High School.
It was Ridgway's third nailbiter of the past seven days after an overtime win at Johnsonburg last Friday and overtime win hosting Curwensvville on Tuesday.

Fast start fuels ECC to 56-47 win

JOHNSONBURG – The Elk County Catholic Crusaders got off to a fast start Friday night and were able to keep the Rams at bay late in the fourth quarter to earn a 56-47 win in Johnsonburg.
Nate DaCanal led all scorers with 21 points while teammate Jeffrey Wehler finished with 11. Johnsonburg's Kevin Benson paced the Rams with 19 points, 15 of them coming in the fourth quarter.

Elkers survive Curwensville in overtime

Curwensville junior Jake Bloom hit a miracle three-pointer to send Tuesday's game to overtime.
Fortunately for Ridgway, the Elkers haven't been losing in the extra session this season.
Ridgway hung on through four extra minutes for a 41-40 overtime win over the Golden Tide Tuesday night at Ridgway Area High School in an AML South matchup.

Rams top Wolverines, eye ECC Friday night

JOHNSONBURG – The Johnsonburg Rams had three players in double figures Tuesday night as they scored a 49-34 win over visiting Sheffield.
The Rams were led by Ryan Kilhoffer with 14 points, Zane Hodgdon with 13, and Christian Cherry with 12.
Johnsonburg head varsity boys basketball coach Bill Shuey was displeased with the win, however, citing poor shooting from the field and defensive lapses during the game.

Lady Dutch use strong first half to beat Ramettes

The St. Marys Area Lady Dutch used a strong first half to defeat the Johnsonburg Ramettes by a 44-31 score Monday night in a non-league game played at the SMAHS Dutch Oven on Elementary Night and Pink Game Night.
St. Marys held a 14-2 lead after the first quarter and led 22-9 at the half. Each team scored 22 second half points as the Lady Dutch picked up the win.
"As a team we are definitely improving as the season goes on," said St. Marys coach Leona Hoohuli.
"Michelle (Bauer) and AnnMarie (Vargas) did good jobs for us coming off the bench," added Hoohuli.

Crusaders hold on for 54-51 road win over Kane

The Elk County Catholic Crusaders survived a close game with the Kane Wolves on Monday evening in Kane, holding on for a three-point victory, 54-51. It was a big difference from when the two teams met earlier this month. ECC won that contest 72-25.
"I'm happy to escape with a win," said ECC head coach Aaron Straub. "Kane played very well. Matt Gasbarre coached a great game and had his kids well prepared."

Lady Crusaders defeat Lady Wolves 53-33

The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders earned a 20-point victory, 53-33, over the Kane Lady Wolves on Monday evening at the ECCHS gymnasium to remain undefeated.
ECC held a 14-5 advantage at the end of the first quarter, was up 24-13 at the half, and lead 41-25 after three quarters en route to the victory.

JOHNSONBURG – The Johnsonburg Rams appeared to be on the brink of an upset after three quarters Friday night.
After the fourth quarter and overtime, the Rams walked off the court just upset after a loss.
Ridgway overcame a nine-point second half deficit to take a 38-29 overtime victory over the Rams at Johnsonburg Area High School.
Johnsonburg scored just five combined points in the fourth quarter and overtime. The Rams finished the game with 17 turnovers.
