Ramettes boast four players in double figures in win

JOHNSONBURG – With a 10-3 record at the midpoint of the regular season, the Johnsonburg Ramettes continued their upward climb Tuesday night with a 51-25 win over visiting Brockway.
The Ramettes had four players in double figures as senior Rhianon Fowler paced all scorers with 12 points; she was complemented by juniors Chelsea Benson and Kassa Kocjancic, who both tallied 11 points apiece, and fellow senior Brittany Watts, who chipped in 10 points on the night.

Rams take care of overmatched Brookville

JOHNSONBURG – Johnsonburg boys basketball had little trouble against an overmatched Brookville team, finishing the Raiders off early in a 66-31 victory Monday night at Johnsonburg Area High School.
Johnsonburg had a 10-2 lead after the first three minutes and went on to lead 27-6 after the first quarter.

Lady Crusaders down Lady Dutch 47-38 in D9 League play

The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders raised their District 9 League record to 2-1 with a 39-32 victory over the St. Marys Area Lady Dutch Saturday night at the ECCHS gym.
After the Lady Dutch had taken a 20-17 halftime lead, the Lady Crusaders went on a 12-0 run to open a 32-20 lead with 4:42 left in the third period. The Lady Dutch responded with a 6-0 run of their own to close out the period but Elk outscored St. Marys 7-4 in the fourth quarter to win the game.

Elkers win at Kane

KANE – The Kane Wolves played with the Ridgway Elkers for a quarter but the Elkers outscored the Wolves 16-5 in the second quarter and cruised to the 62-35 victory in the Wolves’ Den on Friday night.
Both teams had trouble getting the ball in the hoop early in the game. Ridgway’s leading scorer, Jesse Reynolds, had the first basket at the two-minute mark when he sliced through the lane for two. Kevin Cleer knocked down a three for the Wolves that gave the home team a 6-4 lead, which ended up being the last lead they had in the game.

Jamerson surpasses 1,000 point plateau

Coming into Friday night's game, the focus was on Kane senior Kaila Jamerson surpassing the 1,000 point mark for her career.
Less than two minutes into the game, mission accomplished for Jamerson.
Jamerson finished with a game-high 16 points as Kane had little trouble in a 55-13 victory over Ridgway Friday night at Ridgway Area High School.

Rams lose to Keystone after late run

JOHNSONBURG – A late run of bonus points propelled the Keystone Panthers to a 39-35 dual meet win over Johnsonburg wrestling Thursday night at Johnsonburg Area High School.
With four matches left, Johnsonburg had built up a 35-15 lead but the Panthers were able to come back as Keystone earned maximum points in the final four matches to pick up the dual win.

Ridgway dominates Sheffield

A strong second quarter by Ridgway boys basketball wouldn't allow Sheffield a second chance to regroup in the second half.
Ridgway outscored the Wolverines 28-7 in the second quarter en route to a 30-point halftime lead and a 74-28 victory over Sheffield Wednesday night at Ridgway Area High School.

Ramettes overcome slow start to stop Lady Tide

JOHNSONBURG – The Ramettes were shorthanded in the second quarter Tuesday night after a skirmish under the net left senior Brittany Watts with a bloody nose but the team proved their resilience as they held on for a 48-33 victory against a much improved Curwensville team.

Elkers show improvement against Cameron County

Ridgway wrestling won the majority of the matches wrestled on the mat but three forfeits helped propel Cameron County to a 38-30 win over the Elkers Tuesday night at Ridgway Area High School.
Ridgway won six of the 10 matches wrestled on the mat.
"They wrestled really well with a lot of emotion," Ridgway coach David Fordoski said. "The kids are really coming along. They're believing in what we're doing in the practice room and they're starting to bring it out to the mat."

Elkers down ECC in front of overflow crowd

Ridgway boys basketball used a strong third quarter to overtake the Elk County Catholic Crusaders 48-41 Saturday night in front of an overflow crowd at Ridgway Area High School.
Although the Crusaders kept within striking distance of Ridgway throughout the game, ECC was unable to pull even with Ridgway after the first quarter.
"Ridgway has an excellent team," Elk County Catholic coach Aaron Straub said. "They're extremely well-coached. They're extremely talented. They are awfully difficult to beat. We look forward to the next opportunity to play them."
