Rams take care of feisty Coudy, eye Elk County Catholic in semifinals

JOHNSONBURG – The visiting Coudersport Falcons stuck around late in the third quarter Friday night before the Johnsonburg Rams whipped the visitors late in the game for a 54-37 win in the quarterfinal round of the District 9 Class A playoffs.
The Rams will now play Elk County Catholic on Tuesday; it will be the fourth meeting of the teams this season.
Johnsonburg, paced by a 17-point performance by sophomore Cameron Grumley, got off to a lackadaisical start and had difficulty shaking the Falcons until late in the game.

Crusaders knock off Knights 59-38 to advance to semifinals

RIMERSBURG – A poster board hanging on the wall in the gymnasium at Union High School reads "We love the game because every dribble, shot, or pass is an opportunity for disaster or glory." The former was true for the #2 seeded Union Knights on Friday evening as they struggled to get any momentum going and saw their season come to an end, while the latter was true for the #7 seeded Elk County Catholic Crusaders as they led all the way to take a 59-38 win and advance to the semifinals of the District 9 Class A playoffs.

Lady Crusaders roll to semifinals with 50-24 win over Port

ST. MARYS – The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders jumped out to an early lead against the Port Allegany Lady Gators on Thursday evening in a District 9 quarter final game at ECCHS, and continued to pull away to take a 50-24 victory.
Elk Catholic coach Ken Pistner credited the team's good start with being very important to their overall success on the evening.

Crusaders advance with 58-48 win over Cameron County

ST. MARYS – The Elk County Catholic Crusader basketball team advanced to the District 9 Class A quarterfinals by defeating the Cameron County Red Raiders by a 58-48 score Wednesday night at the ECCHS gym.
The Crusaders started out slow as they were outscored 13-5 in the first quarter, but ended the first half tied at 22. In the second half of the game, Elk Catholic outscored the Raiders by a 36-26 margin to advance.
The Crusaders will now travel to Rimersburg Friday night for a 7 p.m. game with second seed Union Knights.

Ramettes bow out of playoffs against East Forest, 48-35

MARIENVILLE – A second half littered with turnovers undid the Johnsonburg Ramettes.
Ten turnovers in the fourth quarter and 26 for the game thwarted any comeback chances in a 48-35 loss to East Forest in the first round of the District 9 Class A girls basketball playoffs Tuesday night at East Forest High School.

Ridgway wins AML boys championship over Johnsonburg

ST. MARYS – Saturday's AML championship between two of the top three seeds in the upcoming District 9 playoffs lived up to the billing, coming down to the last shot.
At the end, the No. 1 seed in the upcoming district playoffs had the AML championship and a third win over a county rival this season.
Ridgway (23-1) won the AML boys championship, 49-46 in overtime over Johnsonburg Saturday night at St. Marys Area High School, the Elkers' third win over the Rams in four tries this season.

Lady Crusaders win AML girls championship

ST. MARYS – The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusader basketball team captured the 2012 Allegheny Mountain League girls’ championship Saturday night by defeating the Kane Lady Wolves 38-25 at the St. Marys Area High School.
The Lady Crusaders were able to take the early 4-0 lead and led 10-6 at the end of the first quarter. They led 21-12 at the half and never trailed throughout the contest.
“Throughout the year we have been playing good defensive basketball,” said ECCHS coach Ken Pistner. “At this time of the year we are going in the right direction. We’re getting better.”

Ridgway advanced to its second consecutive AML Championship game with a 51-37 victory over Elk County Catholic in the boys' basketball AML semifinal Friday night at Ridgway Area High School.

JOHNSONBURG – The Johnsonburg Rams are clicking at the right time of the year.
Just a week and a half removed from spoiling Ridgway's perfect season, the Rams (20-3) handily defeated DuBois Central Catholic 69-44 in the semifinals of the Allegheny Mountain League [AML] semifinals, setting up the Rams' fourth meeting with the Elkers (22-1) tonight in St. Marys for the AML crown.
Ridgway dropped Elk County Catholic for the second time this season, this time by a 51-37 score.

Lady Crusaders reach AML final with 43-26 win

ST. MARYS – The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders advanced to tonight’s Allegheny Mountain League championship game with a 43-26 victory over the Brockway Lady Rovers last night at the ECCHS gym.
Elk Catholic will meet the Kane Lady Wolves, who defeated the DuBois Central Lady Cardinals 53-47 last night at DuBois Central.
Last night at the ECCHS gym the Lady Crusaders opened a 12-4 lead after the first quarter, then scored the first eight points of the second period to take a 20-4 lead before Brockway could get on the board in the second eight minute stanza.
