Fannett Metal eliminates Lady Crusaders from ‘A’ tourney

LORETTO – The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusader softball team saw their season come to an end Friday afternoon at St. Francis University in Loretto, where they suffered a tough 2-1 loss to the Fannett Metal Lady Tigers.
Elk Catholic ended the season with a fine 20-4 record. They were the District 9 Class A champs and won the Elk County Tournament.

Crusaders edge Lancers 4-3 to advance to semifinals

INDIANA – The Neshannock Lancers may have had more fans in the stands and around the field at Thursday afternoon's quarterfinal contest at the White Township Recreation Complex in Indiana, but the Elk County Catholic Crusader squad made enough noise both on and off the field to keep the momentum in their favor as they pulled off a 4-3 victory to advance to the PIAA Class A baseball championship semifinals.
Jack Herzing went the distance on the mound for the Crusaders, giving up three hits, walking two, and striking out seven.

Streich drafted in sixth round by Athletics

A lifelong dream became reality for Seth Streich on Tuesday.
Streich, a junior at Ohio University, was selected in the sixth round with the 199th overall pick by the Oakland Athletics on the second day of the MLB Draft.

Lady Crusaders advance in PIAA playoffs over Sto-Rox

BROCKWAY - The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusader softball team advanced to the quarterfinals of the PIAA Class A softball tournament with a 6-2 victory over the Sto-Rox Vikings Monday afternoon at the Brockway Area High School field.
The Lady Crusaders will meet District 5 champion Fannett Metal Thursday at a site and time to be announced. Fannett Metal defeated District 7 runner-up Carmichaels 12-1 Monday.

Crusaders advance with 6-2 win over West Middlesex

SLIPPERY ROCK – It was cloudy and cool Monday afternoon at Jack Critchfield Park at Slippery Rock University for the PIAA Class A baseball championship opening-round game between West Middlesex and Elk County Catholic, but the Crusaders' bats were hot and so was sophomore Brandon Schlimm's pitching as ECC led all the way for a 6-2 victory.

Wilcox Legion wins season opener

WILCOX – The Wilcox American Legion baseball team overwhelmed Smethport for an 11-0, 5-inning victory Monday night at Jones Township Community Park in the season opener of American Legion play.
Wilcox put the throttle down with a 7-run third inning after already establishing a 3-0 lead in the second inning.

Lady Crusader softball wins District 9-A crown

KERSEY - The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusader softball team captured the District 9 Class A championship by defeating the Brockway Lady Rovers by a 4-0 score Thursday afternoon at the Fox Township Community Park in Kersey.
The Lady Crusaders used a two-run home run by Lyndsey Trumbull in the second inning and a two-run double by Michelle Imbrogno in the sixth inning to account for their four runs.

Coudersport shuts out Crusaders 7-0 for D9-A title

After pulling off a big win Wednesday to knock off an undefeated Johnsonburg squad and advance to the D9 Class A baseball final, the Elk County Catholic Crusaders came out flat on Thursday evening at Berwind Park. The ECC squad got behind early, struggled with their offense, and were shut out 7-0 by a very good Coudersport team, which entered the tournament as the sixth seed.

Shuey, coaches reflect on javelin gold medal

JOHNSONBURG – Michael Shuey and the Johnsonburg track and field coaching staff ran the gamut of emotions last Friday during the javelin event at the PIAA Track and Field Championship Meet at Shippensburg University.
In the end, the wonder with the anticipation to victory became joy with the realization of a gold medal for the Johnsonburg senior.
Shuey took the PIAA gold medal in the javelin with a throw of 200-1, a mark he established with his first throw of the competition.

Schlimm leads Crusaders to district title game

Elk County Catholic (16-6) dealt previously undefeated Johnsonburg (20-1) a stunning 5-2 defeat Wednesday afternoon at Sandy Beach Recreational Park, ousting the No. 1 seed from the District 9 Class A baseball playoffs in the process. Throughout the season, one run was often times the difference in a game for the Rams; on Wednesday, just one loss spoiled their season and kept them out of both the district title game and the state playoffs.
