Ridgway boys golf advances to AML Championship

Tough scoring conditions met both Ridgway and Elk County Catholic but the Elkers were able to defeat the Crusaders 212-220 in action Tuesday afternoon at Laurel Mill Golf Course.
Josh Roselli of Ridgway was the medalist for the day with his score of 36.
“The scores were high for the two top teams in District 9 as Laurel Mill Golf Course played tough,” Ridgway coach Dave Zawatski said. “Give Josh Roselli credit for being that guy that we have been searching for and going low to make the difference.”

Ridgway hosts annual Invitational

RIDGWAY — Ridgway cross country hosted the annual Ridgway Invitational Saturday morning at Francis S. Grandinetti Elementary School.
A new meet record was shattered in the girls varsity race as Regan Rome of Dallas finished with a time of 18:15, breaking the old record of 19:03 which was set by Dani Kocjancic of Kane in 2008. Kennedy Weisner of Elk County Catholic also would have broken the old meet record with her runner-up finish at 18:41.
Adair Gennocro of St. Marys was third at 19:04 and Victoria Dippold took fourth for ECC with a time of 19:37.

Johnsonburg downs rival Elkers

JOHNSONBURG – Johnsonburg football fans have been waiting two years to see a Ram football win at home.
The Rams delivered Friday night against an oldtime rival.
Johnsonburg held off a late Ridgway drive for a 13-12 victory Friday at Memorial Field in Johnsonburg.
After 108 meetings between the two teams, the series is tied 50-50-8.
"It feels great," Johnsonburg coach Jesse Schreiber said. "It's for the kids, they played extremely well. It's huge, it's a rivalry game. It doesn't matter what our record is. It's a rivalry game and it's big."

Ramettes down Lady Tide, 3-1

JOHNSONBURG – Johnsonburg volleyball won 3-1 (25-13, 26-24, 22-25, 25-19) over Curwensville Tuesday night at Johnsonburg Area High School.
“It was something that we needed as a team to play consistently enough to come ahead,” Johnsonburg coach Bill Shuey said. “I thought sometimes we played well and some parts during the game we would fall asleep or our passing would leave us. I thought we did some good things.”
The Ramettes came out strong in the first set and took in it easy fashion by a 25-13 margin.

Ridgway boys soccer honors seniors

The Ridgway boys soccer team lost 3-2 to Coudersport in action Tuesday afternoon at Francis S. Grandinetti Elementary School.
Coudersport took the lead with a strong first 20 minutes of play with a pair of goals for a 2-0 lead.
“We gave it up at the beginning,” Ridgway coach Todd Voss said. “Unfortunately, those things happen. We’re on the edge, it’s crazy. We can’t lose any more games.”
Ridgway would get a good scoring chance as senior striker Peter Pontzer would have a shot stopped by the Coudersport goalkeeper with 15 minutes left in the first half.

Ridgway boys golf defeats St. Marys

The Ridgway Elker golf team handed the St. Marys Area Flying Dutch squad a 204-226 loss Tuesday in a match played at the Bavarian Hills Golf Course.
Ridgway’s Josh Roselli was the medalist for the day with his 38.
For the Dutchmen, Rudy Gleixner had a 41 followed by Owen Schreiber with a 42, Quinn Cunningham 47, Dillon Gallagher and Kyle Pistner with 48s, Justin Beimel and Garrett Wendel with 56s and Jordan Wehler with a 62.

Kristy Hanes runner-up in D9-AA Girls' Golf Championship

BROOKVILLE – For the second year in a row, Elk County Catholic High School's Kristy Hanes finished in the runner-up spot among the Class AA golfers in the District 9 Girls' Golf Championship, three strokes behind the leader.
The scenario was unfortunately a familiar one for Hanes, who tied for second last year with Union's Larissa Roberts while coming in three strokes behind Redbank Valley's Samantha Dinger.
In this year's event, which was held at Pinecrest Country Club in Brookville, Hanes carded an 88 on the day, while Keystone's Amber Hess shot an 85 to take the title.

Grumley wins D-9 Class AA boys golf title

ST. MARYS – Cameron Grumley of Johnsonburg won the Class AA District 9 boys golf championship Saturday afternoon after the final round of play at Bavarian Hills Golf Course.
Grumley finished with a final-round 76, the best round of the day by four strokes and a 2-day total of 153 (77-76).
“It feels good,” Grumley said. “I played alright, I had some ups and downs but stuck with it. Elliott and Josh played well and we’re all making it to regionals.”

Ridgway dominates Kane boys soccer, 9-1

Ridgway boys soccer had little trouble in a 9-1 victory over Kane Saturday morning at Francis S. Grandinetti Elementary School.
Peter Pontzer scored the first goal of the game just past the 10-minute mark. Luke Bobby would push the Ridgway lead to 2-0 less than two minutes later off a long header and an assist from Justin Kinkead.
Pontzer added his second goal of the game with 17:58 remaining in the first half off an assist from Bryce Dias for a 3-0 lead. Matt Bobby would add a goal off an assist from Luke Bobby with 6:28 left for a 4-0 lead.

Ridgway football falters against Brockway, 38-14

After a strong first half by Ridgway football, Brockway would pull away in the second half for a 38-14 victory over the Elkers.
It took just over a minute and four plays for Brockway to receive the opening kickoff and drive right down the field. Quarterback Alec Shaffer-Doan would culminate the drive with an 8-yard touchdown run on a quarterback bootleg play to put the Rovers up 7-0.
