Geyer finishes 2-2 at states

Ridgway senior wrestler Ryan Geyer finished his run at the PIAA Individual Wrestling Championships with a loss in the second round of consolations Friday morning at Giant Center in Hershey.
Geyer lost a 14-2 major decision to Toby Cahill of Berlin-Brothersvalley to finish his run in Hershey with a 2-2 record.
Geyer finished the season with a 26-9 overall record and was Ridgway's first state qualifier under third-year head coach David Fordoski.
Geyer finished third at districts and fourth at regionals to make it to states.

Ridgway 195-pounder Ryan Geyer still has a shot at a state medal.
The Elker senior went 2-1 on the first day of the Class AA PIAA Individual Wrestling Championships at Giant Center in Hershey Thursday morning to continue on to Friday in the three-day tournament.
Geyer will wrestle in the second round of consolations against Toby Cahill of Berlin-Brothersvalley, the third-place finisher from the Southwest Regional Championships.
Geyer opened the day with a quick victory as he pinned Robert Scherer of Burrell in just 24 seconds in the preliminary round to advance to the round of 16.

Ridgway junior high boys basketball honored with banquet

The Ridgway junior high basketball teams were honored with a banquet Monday night at Francis S. Grandinetti Elementary School.
Seventh-grade coach Ed Thorwart introduced the players and spoke about getting the players to adapt to the Elker style of basketball.

Johnsonburg Ramettes girls basketball honored with banquet

JOHNSONBURG – Johnsonburg girls basketball honored their 2014-2015 team with a banquet held Sunday afternoon at Johnsonburg Area Elementary School.
Varsity head coach Ellie Kocjancic introduced the four seniors and gave each one of them plaques referencing a game which stood out in her mind from the past season. Taylor Wolfe was the first senior mentioned and Kocjancic remembered the Ramettes win at Curwensville in which she scored 15 points and held Ciara Strickland to 14 points. Wolfe was also the Defensive MVP award winner.

Clarion-Limestone beats Crusaders 49-40 in OT

CLARION — The Clarion-Limestone Lions advanced to the District 9 Class A boys championship game by defeating the Elk County Catholic Crusaders by a 49-40 score in overtime Wednesday night at Clarion University's Waldo Tippin Gymnasium.
The Lions outscored the Crusaders 11-2 in the extra four-minute period after Elk came back to knot the score at 38 at the end of regulation.

Kentucky played host to SEC league door matt Auburn and appropriately blew them out of the gym. Kentucky used a 23-2 run in the first half to break open a 27 point first half lead. They never looked back as Auburn never seriously threatened again. Karl Anthony Towns led Kentucky with 19 points and 10 rebounds.

Six area wrestlers advance to regionals

CLARION – It was a successful weekend for area wrestlers as a total of six area grapplers will be going to the PIAA Northwest Regional Championship at the conclusion of the District 9 Class AA Individual Wrestling Championships Saturday at Clarion University.
For Ridgway, Bryce Barclay (106), Drew Baumgratz (120), Logen McClain (126), Ryan Geyer (195) and Troy Quail (220) qualified. Johnsonburg's Jake Zimmerman qualified at 132 pounds.
