COUDERSPORT â€“Â Despite the best efforts of the Crusader football team, there was one objective they were unable to accomplish on Friday night: successfully dumping a bucket of ice on head coach Tony Gerg in celebration of his first coaching victory. Everything else seemed to go the team's way though as they romped to a 32-0 shutout over the Coudersport Falcons in a contest played under the lights at C.A.R.P. Park in Coudersport.
Ridgway boys golf remained undefeated on the season with a 196-251 win over Brockway Thursday afternoon.
Ridgway was led by overall medalist Josh Roselli with a 36. TJ Schlimm finished with a 38 and Ben Ames carded a 39.
Ridgway boys golf won the team season opener 195-246 over Kane Tuesday afternoon on a hot afternoon at Laurel Mill Golf Club.
Josh Roselli of Ridgway was the medalist for Tuesday's match as he carded a 36 for the Elkers. Mitchell Stark finished one stroke higher with a 37 and TJ Schlimm finished with a 39 for Ridgway. Nick Simon finished with a 41 for Ridgway and Ben Ames carded a 42 for the Elkers to round out the top five.
Ridgway golfers have been faring well this summer in the Penn-York Junior Golf League.
Josh Roselli has three top-5 finishes so far and TJ Schlimm has finished in the top 10 twice. Nick Simon has been a 2-time winner this season and Ben Ames has two top-5 finishes.
Undefeated in the Elk County League playoffs, the St. Marys American Legion Post 103 baseball team headed into the championship game with two chances to beat Bradford. They only needed one, but the outcome was up in the air until the final inning on Tuesday night at Berwind Park. A pitchers' duel between St. Marys' Jack Herzing and Bradford's Garrett Brugh kept the game scoreless until the bottom of the final inning, when a walk-off single by Herzing scored Dan Singer to give St. Marys the 1-0 victory.
WILCOX â€“ The Wilcox bats couldn't solve Smethport pitcher Dustin Zetwick Sunday afternoon.
They won't have another chance to this season.
Zetwick threw eight shutout innings and held Wilcox to just two hits in a 3-0, eight-inning victory for Smethport Sunday afternoon at Jones Township Community Park.
WILCOX â€“ With elimination in the cards with a loss, Wilcox picked a good time to put a decisive effort together.
A seven-run first inning was followed by more timely hitting as Wilcox was able to cruise to an 11-0 win over Fox Township Friday evening at Jones Township Community Park in an elimination game in the Elk County American Legion League playoffs.
WILCOX â€“ After Wilcox's opening playoff win Wednesday night, Wilcox coach Frank Ferragine said he knew the team needed to be more consistent with hitting and making the most of good opportunities.
Once again, neither happened for Wilcox and this time it led to a defeat.
Wilcox stranded eight runners on base over the first six innings and couldn't overcome timely hitting from Bradford as the Bradford Legion team won 8-2 over Wilcox Thursday evening at Jones Township Community Park.
