Crusaders use strong second quarter to beat Dutch 64-48

The Elk Catholic Crusaders took advantage of a strong second quarter to hand the St. Marys Area Flying Dutchmen a District 9 League 64-48 loss Saturday night at the SMAHS Dutch Oven.
The Dutch held a 15-11 lead after the first eight minutes of play. In the second quarter Elk Catholic took advantage of nine St. Marys Area turnovers to outscore the Dutch 21-9 and open a 32-24 halftime lead. In the second half, Elk outscored their hosts 32-24.

Lady Crusaders defeat Lady Dutch 55-27

The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders extended their winning streak to 11-0 with a 55-27 victory over the St. Marys Area Lady Dutch on Saturday night at the SMAHS Dutch Oven.
ECC led all the way and was up 16-5 at the end of the first quarter, 26-17 at the half, and 42-20 after three.
"I thought in the first half we played with a lack of energy," said Elk County Catholic head coach Ken Pistner. "We came out a little bit flat in the first half. I thought in the second half we played much better basketball. We cut down our turnovers in the second half and played with a little more energy."

Big 2nd quarter lifts Elkers over Wolves

The Ridgway Elkers used a big second quarter to pull away from the Kane Wolves in boys’ basketball action in the Wolves’ Den on Friday night. The visitors led by two after one quarter but put up 17 points in the second while holding the Wolves scoreless during the quarter to take a big lead into the locker room and went on to win 47-27.

Rams unable to make up for poor 1st quarter

JOHNSONBURG – The DuBois Central Catholic Cardinals staked themselves to an early first quarter lead and were able to stave off a late rally Friday night to preserve a 49-42 win in the Paper City.
The Rams wasted a 22-point effort from Christian Cherry as Zane Hodgdon followed with nine points and Nate Burgeson chipped in six. No other Johnsonburg player had more than one field goal.

Lady Wolves defeat Lady Elkers

Kane girls basketball had plenty of chances from the foul line and took advantage of enough of them to take a 44-27 win over Ridgway Friday night at Ridgway Area High School.
Kane was 22 for 38 from the foul line while Ridgway was just 2 for 5. Ridgway didn't shoot a free throw until the second half.

Ridgway earned a second victory in two nights but this time it was against a team that looked anything but its 1-9 record.
The Elkers defeated Brockway 41-28 Wednesday night at Ridgway Area High School to move to 10-1 on the season.

JOHNSONBURG – Brookville junior Hali Olson led the way with 15 points Wednesday night as the Lady Raiders took a 42-29 win over Johnsonburg.
Poor shooting doomed the Ramettes as Johnsonburg managed just nine field goals on the night.

Ridgway boys basketball downs Sheffield

Ridgway boys basketball opened 2015 with a 53-24 win over Sheffield Tuesday night at Ridgway Area High School.
"No matter who were playing, we want to get better," Ridgway coach Anthony Allegretto said. "You never know what's going to happen. A team can hit you with a defense that shakes you up, especially with us missing Josh Roselli, not having a true point guard with all that experience, you never know what type of defense will cause concern for us. Jeremy and Ben kind of take control of the situation and figure out where we need to get the ball."

Key 2nd quarter run dooms Ramettes against Lady Tide

JOHNSONBURG – The Johnsonburg Ramettes were unable to recover from a key second quarter run as the Curwensville Lady Tide left town Tuesday night with a 60-47 victory.
The visitors had three players in double digits led by Ciara Strickland with 26 points, Shauna Guy with 12, and Kayli Sedgwick with 11.

JOHNSONBURG – After ending 2014 with two losses at the Elk County Holiday Tournament, Johnsonburg boys basketball opened 2015 with a 52-30 win over Bradford Monday night at Johnsonburg Area High School.
Johnsonburg coach Bill Shuey said it was a good win against a quality opponent and noted chemistry and team play as keys to the victory.
