Varsity Shamrocks win Cereal Bowl over Rockets

JOHNSONBURG – After two failed attempts, the Johnsonburg Shamrocks didn’t need any Lucky Charms to find the Cereal Bowl championship pot of gold by the end of Saturday night.
Johnsonburg built a 30-point lead in the first half and was able to take the varsity Cereal Bowl 43-15 over Ridgway at Memorial Field in Johnsonburg.

JOHNSONBURG – It took one play for the Johnsonburg Shamrocks to take control of the Cereal Bowl.
An opening touchdown run on the first play of the game was a harbinger of things to come as the Shamrocks won the CPYFL junior varsity championship game 31-0 over the St. Marys Gold Stallions Saturday afternoon at Memorial Field in Johnsonburg.

Elkers remain unbeaten in AML play, defeat Curwensville

CURWENSVILLE – If it's been an AML opponent, it's been an AML victory for the Ridgway Elkers this season.
Ridgway moved to 8-0 against AML opponents with a 40-28 victory over Curwensville Friday night at Riverside Stadium in Curwensville.
It was Ridgway's first win over the Golden Tide since the 2003 season.

TIONESTA – Ridgway girls soccer extinguished the Forest Area Lady Fires' season and moved into the D-9 semifinals again.
Caitlin Viglione added a pair of goals for Ridgway in a 3-0 win over Forest Area Thursday afternoon at West Forest High School in the District 9 Class A quarterfinals.

Ramettes lose on Senior Night to ECC

JOHNSONBURG – Elk County Catholic volleyball capped off a perfect 14-0 regular season Thursday night with a 3-0 (25-12, 25-13, 25-15) win over Johnsonburg.
"We were glad to get everyone some playing time as we prepare for the district playoffs next week," said ECC head varsity volleyball coach Diane Gies following the win. "It's a good tuneup match for us as we prepare for next week, and to finish the season at 14-0 for the regular season, that was a goal for us at the beginning of the year. Being 14-0 for the regular season is a lot nicer than any other number."

ST. MARYS – Elk County Catholic volleyball remained undefeated on the season with a 3-0 win (25-9, 25-10, 25-17) victory over Ridgway Tuesday night at Elk County Catholic High School.
Elk County Catholic coach Diane Gies said she was pleased with the effort after the ECC Tournament on Saturday.

The Johnsonburg Ramettes won a match between two struggling teams on Tuesday night in the Wolves’ Den. Coach Bill Shuey’s Ramettes won their third match of the season 3-1, (25-18, 25-21, 23-25 and 25-15) to spoil Kane’s Senior Recognition.

CLARION – The fifth-seeded Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders battled through wet and muddy conditions on Tuesday night at the Clarion Area High School to rally for a 3-2 victory over the fourth-seeded Clarion Lady Bobcats in the District 9 Class A quarterfinals.

Thankfully for the Lady Elkers, it was a happy ending and a chance to play another day.
