Elkers advance with 62-32 win over Eisenhower

CLARION – When the dust settled Friday night, the Ridgway Elkers (21-6) were the lone District 9 Class A team still alive in the state playoffs.
"I know ECC and Johnsonburg were ahead of us, especially at the beginning of the season, but this team really grew and we have some leadership that really grew throughout the season, and it carried us through," Ridgway head coach Anthony Allegretto said following the win. "We want to keep this going."

Lincoln Park ends Johnsonburg season in first round

PITTSBURGH – An emphatic statement was made in the second quarter by Lincoln Park Friday night.
There would be no celebration at the Leopards’ expense this year.
Lincoln Park outscored Johnsonburg 35-13 in the second quarter en route to a 96-46 win over the Rams Friday night at North Hills High School in the first round of the PIAA Class A boys basketball playoffs.

Benninger signs letter of intent to run for Duquesne University

Current Johnsonburg track and field athlete Gabbi Benninger has signed a letter of intent to compete at Duquesne University.
Benninger is a senior at Ridgway Area High School and competes for Johnsonburg under the co-op agreement between the two schools.

Elkers win D-9 title

CLARION — The Ridgway Elkers captured the District 9 Class A boys basketball championship Saturday night by defeating the Elk County Catholic Crusaders by a 48-41 score in the title game played at Clarion University’s Tippin Gymnasium.
The Elkers had built a seven-point lead at the end of three quarters. In the final eight minutes of play, Ridgway used the foul line to their advantage as they converted 10 of 15 foul shots to help secure the victory. The Elkers were 17 of 26 from the sin strip for the game while Elk Catholic was nine of 13.

Johnsonburg takes third, will face Lincoln Park

CLARION – Knowing the PIAA playoff scenarios ahead of time, Johnsonburg knew a victory Saturday meant a rematch with No. 1 ranked Lincoln Park.
The Rams wanted that challenge.
Johnsonburg defeated Clarion-Limestone 57-54 Saturday afternoon at Tippin Gym on Clarion University in the District 9 Boys Class A consolation game.

Ridgway Lady Elkers reflect on season with banquet

The Ridgway varsity girls basketball team was honored with a banquet Friday night at Francis S. Grandinetti Elementary School.
Varsity head coach Stacy Kifer said the team is improving and knows it won’t be an overnight fix.

The Ridgway junior varsity girls basketball team was honored with a banquet Tuesday night at Francis S. Grandinetti Elementary School.
Junior varsity head coach Dina Fullem expressed appreciation to assistant coaches Billie Jo Amacher and Charlie Jaques as well as varsity head coach Stacy Kifer and Joe Kemick for his help. Fullem was most appreciative of the fans' support.

Elkers win in overtime over Clarion-Limestone

CLARION – Once, twice, three times a finalist.
Ridgway advanced to the District 9 Class A boys championship game with a 49-46 overtime victory over Clarion-Limestone Wednesday night at Tippin Gym on the campus of Clarion University.
Ridgway will face Elk County Catholic Saturday night in the final game of the evening. An exact time has yet to be announced.

Crusaders down Rams to reach 9-A championship game

CLARION — The Elk County Catholic Crusader basketball team advanced to the District 9 Class A championship game by defeating the Johnsonburg Rams by a 66-47 score Wednesday night at Clarion University.
The Crusaders were able to take advantage of a poor shooting night by the Rams. Johnsonburg was 15 of 53 from the field for 28 percent while Elk Catholic was 20 of 38 for 61 percent. Elk Catholic was seven of 17 from behind the three-point arc while the Rams wee three of 29.

Fordoski inducted into D-9 Wrestling Hall of Fame

CLARION – Former St. Marys Area wrestling coach Wayne Fordoski was one of seven individuals inducted into the District 9 Wrestling Hall of Fame on Saturday night, during a ceremony held prior to the AA and AAA finals at the District 4/9 Wrestling Championships at Clarion University.
Each year, the District 9 Chapter of the Pennsylvania Wrestling Coaches Association (PWCA) recognizes inductees for their "outstanding achievements and contributions as wrestlers, coaches, and contributors to the sport of wrestling."
