Young throws no-hitter, Minor all-stars win 14-0

BRADFORD – With the start of their game two hours behind schedule, the St. Marys Minor League all-star softball team played just about as quick of a game as possible against Warrington, coming up with a 14-0 victory in four innings to advance to the final of the winners' bracket tonight in the Minor League State Tournament. The tournament is being held at the Kessel Athletic Complex at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford.
Kendall Young continued to be stellar in the circle, throwing a no-hitter and striking out nine of the 12 batters she faced.

The NRA National Silhouette Championships return to the Ridgway Rifle Club next week. The smallbore competition begins next Sunday, Aug. 2 and runs through Tuesday, Aug. 4. The high power championships will then run from Thursday, Aug. 6 through Saturday, Aug. 8. Ridgway last hosted this event in 2013. Pictured is Kenneth M. St. Marys Minors walk off 11-1 over Caln to win state tourney opener

BRADFORD – The St. Marys Minor League all-star softball team opened play in the Minor League State Tournament with an 11-1 five-inning walk-off win over Caln Township on Tuesday night in a game played under the lights at the Kessel Athletic Complex at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford.
St. Marys led all the way, taking a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning and adding to it in every inning but the third. They scored three runs in the second, four in the fourth, and three in the fifth.

For Ridgway Area High School graduate and current University of Pittsburgh baseball player Josh Mitchell, his summer was spent playing baseball with the Victoria HarbourCats of the West Coast League, a summer league for collegiate players.

Senior all-stars walk off to stay alive in state tournament

DuBOIS – The St. Marys Senior League All-Star baseball team suffered a forgettable 15-0 five-inning defeat to Upper Moreland in the semifinals of the winners' bracket on Friday evening, and the loss put them in a tough position as they then had to immediately turn around and face Montoursville in an elimination game. They made sure the second game was more memorable as they recorded a 9-8 walk-off win in eight innings to stay alive in the tournament.

Elk County Senior League softball All-Stars to open at states

The Elk County Senior League softball All-Stars are scheduled to open play in the Pennsylvania State Tournament this afternoon in Berwick.
The All-Stars are scheduled to play against Greater Pittston at noon. Elk County manager Rich Quiggle said the Greater Pittston team is a bit more experienced due to their experience last year.

Schlimm named to NYCBL All-Star squad

Brandon Schlimm was recently selected to compete in the New York Collegiate Baseball League (NYCBL) 2015 All-Star Game, which will be played at Damaschke Field in Oneonta, N.Y. on Thursday, July 16.

Ridgway Legion eliminated from Elk County League playoffs

SMETHPORT – The Ridgway American Legion baseball team opened the playoffs with the game ending in victorious walkoff fashion.
Unfortunately for Ridgway, the team ended the playoffs on the other end of the spectrum.
A two-run seventh inning allowed Smethport to rally and walk off with a 3-2 victory over Ridgway in an Elk County Legion League elimination game held Saturday afternoon in Smethport.
A single by Hobie Milliron in the seventh gave Smethport a 3-2 win.
