Johnsonburg graduate now geologist in Texas

Jesse Thompson is a Johnsonburg Area High School graduate who currently lives in Houston, Texas and works at Chevron. Thompson holds a Bachelor's of Science degree in Geology from Allegheny College, and a Master's degree in Geology from the University of Kansas.    
Thompson works for Chevron in the Deepwater Gulf of Mexico Business Unit.

Anthropologist Herman Pontzer definitely a ‘people person’

Kersey native Herman Pontzer, now living in Brooklyn, N.Y., helps students explore the human family tree as a professor of anthropology at Hunter College, City University of New York, in New York City. He uses many disciplines and skills in his career, and his work has taken him around the world.

Wehler earning top points as wrestling coach

Kersey native Mike Wehler helps student-athletes with decisions both on and off the mat as the head wrestling coach at Mercyhurst College in Erie.
Wehler is entering his eighth year as a head coach and said his job doesn't make him feel pinned down at all.

Ridgway graduate pursued medical career

Natalie E. Porcaro, a 2002 Ridgway Area High School graduate, now works as a Neurosurgery Physician Assistant at Sinai Hospital in Baltimore, a facility ranked as one of the top hospitals in the country.
Porcaro went to college, both undergraduate and graduate school, at St. Francis University in Loretto. Porcaro took part in a five-year Physician Assistant Program, graduating in 2006 with a Bachelor's of Science, where she continued for a Master's of Physician Assistant Sciences.

Ridgway native now veterinary pharmacist in Oregon

Ridgway native Brian T. Bowers is now an Associate Director at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital Pharmacy at Oregon State University, College of Veterinary Medicine in Corvallis, Oreg.
A 2003 Ridgway Area High School graduation, Bowers continued his education by attending St. Vincent College in Latrobe. He then did his Pharmacy program at Duquesne University. Bowers graduated in 2009 as a PharmD from Duquesne University, Mylan School of Pharmacy.

Former Ridgway graduate now involved in heart transplants in Texas

Amy Allison, formerly Amy Steis, now resides in Spring, Texas (north of Houston), and currently works at St. Luke’s Cooley Transplant Center in Houston.
A 1989 Ridgway Area High School graduate, Allison went on to attend Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1993 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Allison chose IUP because it has a reputable nursing program.
“It was a really ideal place to go to school,” she said. “IUP was far enough away to learn independence as a young adult, but close enough to come back home to see everyone.”

Anderson enjoys life in the UK

Ridgway native David Anderson, 32, credits his high school physics teacher Ernest Koos and many other members of the community for his career as a mechanical engineer.
Last October, Anderson moved from the Pittsburgh area, where he resided for nine years, to Derby, United Kingdom, to expand his professional experience.
Anderson graduated from Ridgway Area High School in 1997.

Everything 'shipshape' and 'barrels' of fun for Casey Scott

Ridgway native Casey Scott's interest in shipping and business has led him to sail the seas, often traveling and in some cases living around the world as a shipping manager for one of the world's largest oil companies.
Scott attended Ridgway Area High School and received a B.S. in Marine Engineering and Marine Transportation from the United States Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, N.Y. He put his degree to good use after graduation and gained some practical experience by sailing cargo ships to destinations across the globe.

Kunes helps families, fights crime in medical examiner's office

The work done in medical examiners' offices has often been glamorized by popular television shows, but for Elk County native Jazmine Kunes, it is a way to help ensure that justice is done and bring closure to families in her job as a Quality Assurance Technician for the Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office in Pittsburgh.
"I love being in the criminal justice environment. I am able to watch people I work with help those who no longer have a voice in this life, and I too contribute to this in certain ways," Kunes said. 

Nangle truckin' along throughout SoCal

Shannon DePonceau Nangle, 33, of Apple Valley, Calif., spends a majority of her time traveling through California and Nevada as a truck driver for Performance Team, an ideal career for someone who says she doesn't like being stuck inside a building all day.
Over the past seven years, Nangle has delivered everything from dry bulk products such as powdered cement, sand and rock from mills to various batch plants, to an array of household items and merchandise.
