The Ridgway Township Municipal Authority approved the township's fiscal year audit during Thursday night's regular meeting.
Treasurer Jeff Schutz reported a clean audit.
ST. MARYS â€“ The St. Marys Recreation Board honored Denny Posteraro, recently retired recreation director, for 46 years of service to the city's recreation program during their meeting on Wednesday evening at St. Marys City Hall.
Devin Brock, rec board member, presented Posteraro with a citation from the city, as well as a plaque from the recreation board. Rec board members also had cake and ice cream in honor of Posteraro, and had a number of scrapbooks on display that he made over the years to showcase the coverage of park activities.
In an effort to educate the public about end-of-life options, Community Nurses, Inc. is sponsoring "Preparing for a Graceful Journey," a free event open to the public that will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 9 from 6-8 p.m. in the small conference room at The Red Fern in St. Marys.
ST. MARYS â€“ The SGL Warriors Elk County Relay For Life team will be presenting their sixth LOL Stand Up Comedy Show and dinner at the Edgewood Hall in St. Marys on Saturday, Nov. 5 at 6 p.m.
Co-captain of the SGL Warriors and event planner Bill Babik said tickets for the event sold out earlier in the week.
"This is the first year we are sold out this far ahead of the event," Babik said. "It's going really good and we will continue to host the event."
Babik and co-captain Brian Reid plan to host another comedy event in early March of 2012.
Officials have secured $150,000 through the Colcom Foundation's grant program, "Marcellus Environmental Fund," for the Headwaters Quality Drinking Water Project.
The initiative reportedly will provide low- to moderate-income families in Jefferson, Elk, Potter, Cameron, Clinton, Centre, Clearfield, and McKean counties with funding to secure chain-of-custody water sample analysis of their private water supplies prior to Marcellus Shale gas well drilling activities.
KARTHAUS â€“Â With this year's week-long elk hunting season in full swing, Pennsylvania Game Commission (PGC) personnel and spectators at the elk check station, located at the Game Commission's maintenance shed along the Quehanna Highway in Karthaus, had the opportunity to examine a pair of impressive bulls shortly after the station opened at 10 a.m. on Tuesday morning.
The bulls were both harvested in Zone 7, with one having been shot Monday evening and the other early Tuesday morning.
ST. MARYS â€“ In order to make health care for area residents more efficient, Elk Regional Health Center (ERHC) has developed the Q Care service for non-urgent health care needs that will allow people to be seen for more minor ailments and avoid lengthy waits in the center's emergency department.
ST. MARYS - A recent letter to the editor prompted inquiries into lunch payment policies within area school districts in Elk County.
St. Marys Area School District Food Service Director Jennifer Asti explained there are several options for students to pay for their breakfasts and lunches.
Among them are setting up payment plans which can be made on a daily, weekly or monthly basis. Most students opt to pay by the week or month, especially in the elementary schools; however, more daily payments are seen in the middle and high schools.
Lisa M. Maholtz, 51, of Early Avenue, Ridgway, died Monday, Nov. 1, 2011 at home after a short illness.
She was born June 16, 1960 in Ridgway, the daughter of Kenneth and Elsie (DeLong) Maholtz, who survive.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by a daughter, Chasitie Edmisten of Ridgway; a granddaughter, Nevaeh Edmisten; and a sister, Helen Maholtz-Turner of North Carolina.
She was predeceased by her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy and Orpha DeLong and Mr. and Mrs. Frank and Amy Maholtz. Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â
JOHNSONBURG â€“ Johnsonburg volleyball opened the District 9 Class A volleyball playoffs with a 3-0 (25-22, 25-16, 25-18) victory over Cameron County in the first round Tuesday night at Johnsonburg Area High School.
