Lawrence L. “Bud” Parks

Lawrence L. “Bud” Parks, age 82, of Old Kane Rd, Wilcox, died Tuesday, April 26, 2011 at Highland View Health Care after a short illness.
He was born Dec. 22, 1928 in Johnsonburg, son of Lawrence L. and Vivian (Klase) Parks, both deceased.
He married Angeline “Angie” (DeChano), she survives.
He served in the U.S. Navy and worked at the Johnsonburg Paper Mill for 43 years. he lived all his life in Johnsonburg and Wilcox.

Ridgway YMCA releases triathlon results

The Ridgway Triathlon has released its full results from Saturday's event.
The Ridgway Run/Bike/Canoe Club was the overall winner of the triathlon with a time of 2:04:52. They were a 4-person team over the age of 40 as was the second-place finisher, Jeremy's, Andy's, Keith's and Mark's Team with a time of 2:05:53.

Frank Maletto

Frank Maletto, 53, of 2044 Mefferts Run Rd., Wilcox, died Thursday evening, April 21, 2011 at Elk Regional Health Center in St. Marys following a lengthy illness.
He was born July 11, 1957 in St. Marys, son of the late Orlando "Popeye" and Borgia McDivitt Maletto.
On Oct. 28, 2006, he married Laurie J. Taylor, who survives.

Melinda (Mindy) S. Bell

Melinda (Mindy) S. Bell, 36, of Pittsburgh, (formerly of Franklin), passed away unexpectedly Wednesday morning, April 20, at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh.
Born in Franklin on June 5, 1974, Mindy was the daughter of John Andrew and Karla S. Shaffer Bell of Elk Street.

Kane swipes doubleheader from Ridgway

Visiting Kane overpowered Ridgway Thursday with a 12-2 win in the first game that lasted six innings followed by a close 6-5 contest called due to darkness after five innings of play.
The Elkers were doomed in the first game by a big fourth inning that saw Kane put eight runs on the board.

Johnsonburg softball sweeps doubleheader over Sheffield

JOHNSONBURG – Johnsonburg softball swept a doubleheader with Sheffield Thursday at Knothole Area Recreational Park.
The Ramettes won 13-12 in eight innings then followed up with a 19-0 win in three innings.
"They really were doing well at hitting," Johnsonburg coach Melissa Myers said. "Our girls were coming around. That's what I've been wanting to see them do. We had a couple errors in the first game, I think that's what kept the game close. You try to work all the girls in and give them a chance. We stuck with it and pulled through."

Sandy L. Leithner, 59, of State Road, Johnsonburg, died at home on Tuesday, April 19, 2011, following a lengthy illness.
She was born on Feb. 22, 1952 in Ridgway, the daughter of the late Sidney Sprague and Donna (Nitsche) Sprague, who survives in Johnsonburg.
She married Michael “Red” Leithner on August 27, 1982. He survives in Johnsonburg.
She was a graduate of Johnsonburg High School, Class of 1970.
She worked for many years at the Johnsonburg Paper Mill; the Elk County 911 Call Center; and as an administrative assistant with the Elk County Elections Office.

John Max Pennington

John Max Pennington, 42, of 139 Julia St., Johnsonburg, died Monday night, April 18, 2011 at Hamot Medical Center in Erie following a brief illness.
He was born Jan. 20, 1969 in Ridgway, son of MaryAnn Pavlock Pennington and James E. Pennington, who survive.
He resided in Johnsonburg all his life and graduated from Johnsonburg High School, Class of 1990. He was a member of Holy Rosary Church and Central Hose Co. He was also an Eagle Scout. He loved hunting and fishing and had a special way with people and loved animals. He was employed by ELCAM in St. Marys for the past 21 years.

DCC wins rain-fest over Ramettes

JOHNSONBURG – Visiting DuBois Central Catholic used several big offensive innings despite heavy rainfall to drop Johnsonburg 18-3 Monday in a shortened four-inning contest.
The Lady Cardinals took advantage of 12 few passes en route to a 15-run victory that started out as a close contest.
