Having a sick child who must undergo hospital treatment is a parentâs worst nightmare.

Thanks to the âPennies From Heavenâ fund, financial assistance is provided to needy parents of children admitted to Childrenâs Hospital in Pittsburgh. The aid enables parents to remain with their children during the stay in the hospital.

Jeffrey J. (Dad) Erich, 51, of Maple Ave., Ridgway, died Friday, April 20, 2012, at home, in the arms of his wife, leaving behind many broken hearts.
He was born Jan. 27, 1961, in Ridgway, the son of John and Judith Shipe Erich of Kersey.
He graduated from St. Marys Area High School, Class of 1979. He was employed at Morgan AM&T. He was an avid reader, and he was a big Steelers fan.
Pamela J. Cousins, age 50, of Spring Run Road, Weedville, died Saturday, April 21, 2012 as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
There will be no public visitation.
The family will be receiving friends on Wednesday, April 25, 2012 from 9-11 a.m. at the Caledonia United Methodist Church, Caledonia, where a funeral service will follow at 11 a.m.

Members of the Ridgway Fire Department parked their fleet along the intersection of Court and Main Streets Friday evening as they displayed their equipment, including their newest edition, E-RP 412, a dual-purpose rescue/engine truck.
Proposed cuts in the state budget combined with the loss of federal funding will take their toll on Citizens Against Physical, Sexual and Emotional Abuse, Inc. (CAPSEA), said CAPSEA Executive Director Billie Jo Weyant.
CAPSEA, which operates in Elk and Cameron counties, provides housing, meals, counseling, accompaniment, referrals, transportation and support to victims of domestic violence, sexual violence and other serious crime victims and their significant others/children. Victims may stay at the emergency shelter located in Elk County for 30 days or more without charge.
ST. MARYS â The Elk County Community Recycling Center recently added the collection of used cooking oil to the list of services it offers to area residents.
Bekki Titchner, Elk County recycling/solid waste coordinator, explained that the material is being collected at the center's location in the Stackpole Complex in St. Marys during normal hours of operation.
Members of Local Labor Union 2448 of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers [IAMAW] continued their strike Thursday against Clarion Sintered Metals [CSM] in order to obtain their goals of less mandatory overtime, a better pension plan and the same percentage wage for workers.
According to Robert D. Miller, a business representative of District Lodge No. 98 of IAMAW, negotiations have been nonexistent.
ST. MARYS â The Elk County Humane Society is hosting a PAWS Gala on Saturday, April 28 in an effort to raise funds for a new medical room at their shelter.
This is the organization's third gala, with its inaugural gala taking place in 2004 and a smaller gala held in 2007. All proceeds will benefit the society will be used for the medical room and general upkeep of the shelter, located on E. Eschbach Road in St. Marys.
JOHNSONBURG â Solid pitching and extra bases were the name of the game Thursday as the Johnsonburg Rams took a 3-2 win over visiting DuBois Central Catholic to extend their opening run to 8-0 on the season.
Sophomore starting pitcher Cole Peterson went the distance for the Rams, scattering two runs on five hits for a complete game victory. Peterson struck out four in the victory and issued only one free pass, an intentional walk in the third inning.
