Two-vehicle accident Monday

FOX TWP. – The Fox Twp. Volunteer Fire Department, Fox Twp. Ambulance and Medic 12 were dispatched at 7:12 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 13, 2012 to a report of a two-vehicle accident with a passenger vehicle under a van on the Million Dollar Highway.
Fox Twp. Deputy Chief Shields was first on the scene and had a second rescue from Crystal Fire Department in St. Marys dispatched to assist due to the severity of the accident.

Council approves surveillance system

JOHNSONBURG – The Johnsonburg Borough Council voted in favor of installing a security system around the borough building and property following a recommendation by the Public Works Committee during their regularly scheduled meeting Monday afternoon.
Borough Manager Mary Polaski presented a quote obtained from Chestnut Ridge Radio Communications during January's regular meeting for $3,185.
"We met with the committee and they recommended that if the monies were available that we should go with the system," said Johnsonburg Police Chief Bryan Parana.

Wilcox walkway completion projected

WILCOX – Jones Township Supervisors voted to participate in a CEI grant at the meeting held Monday night.
Laurie Storrar, Supervisor/Secretary, reported a grant requiring a 50/50 match is available through the county for recreation purposes.
“We could finish the walking track with this grant,” Storrar said. “Preliminary estimates of cost are approximately $50,000.”
Storrar explained a stipulation to the grant is the township would have to put up 50 percent of the cost, which is $25,000.

ECCSS looking to be. unique

ST. MARYS – "Be. yourself, Be.inspired, Be.eccss" is just one spin on the Elk County Catholic School System's recently launched marketing campaign.
"We want to really promote that we are regional and that we are the Diocesan school system. So when those parishes are thinking about Catholic education, they are thinking about us," said Mary Meyer, ECCSS director of development.
Within the upcoming days and months, residents may begin noticing an array of billboards, banners in school parking lots, newspaper ads and radio and television commercials promoting the school system.

James Vincent "GG" Christoff

James Vincent "GG" Christoff, 89, a resident of Fairview Manor in Erie and formerly of 520 Brusselles St., St. Marys, died Sunday, Feb. 12, 2012 at UPMC Hamot Hospital in Erie.
He was born Jan. 5, 1923 in Ridgway, son of the late Chester and Lena Piccirillo Christoff. He was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of St. Leo's High School, Class of 1941. He was also a graduate of the DuBois Business College.
On June 5, 1947, in the Sacred Heart Church, he married Dorothy Vollmer, who survives.

Jay-Don Joseph Hall

Jay-Don Joseph Hall, 78, of 58 Diamond Lodge Way, Emporium, died Saturday evening, Feb. 11, 2012, at his residence.
He was born Jan. 27, 1934, in Barnes, Warren County, son of the late Charles J. and Alice M. (MacMartin) Hall. He had resided in Emporium for the last few months but had been a former resident of Truman, Austin, Ridgway and Kersey.

Elizabeth A. Kosmiski

Elizabeth A. Kosmiski, 84, of the Lutheran Home at Kane, passed away, Sunday, Feb. 12, 2012, at her residence.
She was born April 30, 1927, in Ridgway, the daughter of Daniel and Elizabeth Kline Brehm. She married Richard A. Kosmiski, he predeceased her on Oct. 6, 1970. Mrs. Kosmiski was a member of St. Leo’s Catholic Church, the Holy Name Society, Catholic Daughters of America and the Idlers Club. She had been employed at the Hour Glass Dry Cleaners in Ridgway.
She is survived by a daughter, Pamela Gregori (Leo) of St. Marys; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Rams down DuBois on Senior Night

JOHNSONBURG – A strong first 10 minutes helped build a lead the Johnsonburg boys basketball team would never relinquish in a 58-48 victory over DuBois Monday night at Johnsonburg Area High School.
"It's a good win against a quality team," Johnsonburg coach Bill Shuey said.
The Rams held a 24-9 lead with 5:38 left in the second quarter after Mitchell Holmberg buried a corner 3-pointer.

Business Expo to showcase array of vendors

ST. MARYS – With over 40 vendors slated to attend the 2012 Business Expo, organizers are encouraging the public to stop out at the event taking place Saturday, Feb. 18 at the Red Fern in St. Marys from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
There will be representatives of businesses including contractors, energy representatives, educational, home-based businesses, manufacturing, insurance and healthcare, along with many more.
Together, The River 98.9 radio station and the St. Marys Area Chamber of Commerce have paired up to sponsor the event as in years past.
