Virginia A. Galdini

September 20, 2012

Virginia A. Galdini, 50, of 213 Old Kane Rd., Wilcox, died Thursday morning, Sept. 20, 2012 at her residence following a lengthy illness.
She was born Oct. 13, 1961 in Kane, daughter of the late Richard and Shirley Polinski Disque. She married Reynold "Reno" Galdini on Sept. 11, 1982 in the Holy Rosary Church in Johnsonburg; he survives.

Crusaders volleyball wins 3-1 over Ridgway

Elk County Catholic volleyball won 3-1 (25-22, 25-22, 14-25, 25-21) over Ridgway Thursday night at Ridgway Area High School.
Ridgway coach Janet Redmond said the Lady Elkers played well and played with determination.

Kane knocks off Johnsonburg volleyball, 3-1

JOHNSONBURG – The Kane Lady Wolves gave the home team fits Thursday night in the serve-receive statistics category in a 3-1 (25-21, 25-17, 21-25, 25-12) win over the Johnsonburg Ramettes.
Kane had little trouble in the first two games against the Ramettes before a hiccup in the third game sidetracked the visitors. The Lady Wolves regrouped quickly, however, to clinch the decisive fourth game for the win.

Ridgway girls soccer dominates Smethport, 4-0

Ridgway had most of the possession, most of the chances and all of the goals against Smethport Wednesday.
The Lady Elkers kept the ball in Smethport’s end for much of the second half as Ridgway won 4-0 over the Lady Hubbers at Francis S. Grandinetti Elementary School.
Ridgway was faced with a Smethport defense which played to defend its goal and poured more personnel into the defensive third.

Trail challenge honors Les Haas

Les Haas, a former member of the Elk County Conservation District and Waterways Conservation Officer with the Pa. Fish an Boat Commission, died unexpectedly seven months ago, but his memory will be kept alive Sept. 22 with the 1st Annual Les Haas Memorial Trail Challenge.
"Les was an avid outdoorsman and was involved in many conservation efforts," said Elk County Conservation District Manager Steve Putt. "Les passed away earlier this year and we wanted to do something to honor and remember him. We decided to call our trail race the Les Haas Memorial Trail Challenge in his honor."

Pauline H. (Punky) Dilley, 25, of 331 First Ave., Johnsonburg, died on Monday, Sept. 17, 2012 in Clearfield, due to a two-car automobile accident there.
She was born on July 31, 1987 in St. Marys, the daughter of Pauline Stahli Dilley and the late Earl O. Dilley.
She resided in Johnsonburg all of her life. She attended Johnsonburg Area High School and received her GED.
She was a member of Holy Rosary Church and a full-time mother.

Lady Dutch volleyball downs Johnsonburg 3-1

The St. Marys Area Lady Dutch volleyball team defeated the Johnsonburg Ramettes by a 3-1 score Tuesday night at the SMAHS Dutch Oven.
St. Marys won the first set by a 25-21 score. They took the second set by a 25-18 score. Johnsonburg won the third set by a 25-21 score. The Lady Dutch won the match by taking the fourth set by a 25-22 score.

Ridgway boys soccer falls in overtime

Ridgway boys soccer lost 2-1 in overtime against the Smethport Hubbers Tuesday afternoon at Francis S. Grandinetti Elementary School.
On a wet and rainy afternoon, neither team could get much going in the first half and the teams went into the half scoreless. The Hubbers would add a goal as the second half would get under way.
Ridgway's lone goal came with around 18 minutes remaining in the half. Bryce Dias was able to set up Luke Bobby and Bobby was able to pass the ball gently into the net for the equalizer at 1-1.

Agreements reached for 911 system

The Elk County Board of Commissioners approved three agreements Tuesday morning regarding the Northern Tier Regional NG911 Telecommunications Project for the county's new 911 Center.
The project, which includes Cameron, Clarion, Forest, Clearfield, Elk, Jefferson, McKean, Crawford and Warren counties, effectively creates a regional 911 system.
The project went out for bid and after the bids were reviewed at a public meeting earlier this year, the commissioners awarded the winning bid to Verizon. The total cost and 5-year maintenance agreement brings the total bill to roughly $2.169 million.
