The Crystal Department reports being called out at approximately 11:36 p.m. on Monday, July 9, 2012 for a camper on fire on the corner of Parade and N. St. Marys streets. Upon arrival, the camper was fully engulfed. Department personnel extinguished the fire. The camper was reported to be a total loss. There was also some damage to the exterior of the house and also to a vehicle that was parked next to the camper, as well as some smoke damage inside the house. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the CFD, St.
The St. Marys junior league all-stars advanced in the District 10 tournament with a 12-6 victory over Ridgway Tuesday night at the Ridgway Little League fields along Grant Road.
Nate DaCanal and Joe Nasoni both opened the game by being hit by a pitch to put two runners on. Ross Brennen doubled both runners home for the game's first two runs. Brennen would later cross the plate as Dalton Bauer grounded out to first.
JOHNSONBURG â€“ Johnsonburg Borough Chief of Police Bryan Parana commented on the recent investigation of a clandestine laboratory and arrest during Monday afternoon's borough council meeting.
Justin Greene, 26, of 137 Terra Cotta Rd., was arrested for manufacturing methamphetamine and operating a methamphetamine laboratory. The arrest stems from an investigation on June 18 where police responded to the residence for unusual items found at that residence. According to reports, upon further investigation ruminates of a clandestine lab were discovered.
FOX TOWNSHIP â€“ A special meeting of the Elk County Tax Collection Committee was held Monday at the Fox Township Municipal Building in response to the failure of a tax collection firm contracted by the county to collect and distribute earned income tax (EIT) to its school districts and municipalities in accordance with Act 32 legislation.
WILCOX â€“ From the beginning of Monday's game, Smethport was overmatched and Cole Peterson was spectacular.
Peterson threw a no-hitter against Smethport in an 8-0 win in a winner's bracket game of the Elk County American Legion baseball playoffs.
Smethport had just one baserunner for the game and it came with two outs in the seventh inning as Zach Smith drew a walk which prevented a perfect game.
BROOKVILLE â€“ The Ridgway minor league all-stars had its District 10 tournament run come to an end after an 18-4, 4-inning loss to Brookville Saturday afternoon at the Brookville Area Little League complex.
The game was payed under sweltering conditions with temperatures at approximately 95 degrees with the heat and humidity contributing to storms which delayed the start of the game and another set which led to a second-inning delay.
The Ridgway minor league all-stars lost Game 1 of the District 10 North/South championship series by a 14-3 margin in five innings to Brookville Friday night at the Ridgway Little league fields.
Brookville was spurred on by 7-run innings in the third and fifth innings to take the 1-0 lead in the best-of-three series which will determine the District 10 minor league champion. Game 2 is scheduled for 4 p.m. this afternoon in Brookville. If Ridgway wins Game 2, Game 3 is scheduled for Sunday with information to be announced.
The Fox Township Supervisors discussed the ongoing topic of the use of township soccer fields by the Elk County Catholic High School soccer team .
An approval of the team's application was tabled during the June meeting. The supervisors did not vote on any contract or addendum at the meeting.
Supervisor Dave Mattiuz created a proposed addendum to the team's rental contract with the park for the 2012 season.
KANE â€“ A 14-year-old boy was injured Tuesday evening when the all-terrain vehicle (ATV) he was operating collided with a westbound vehicle on Route 321 at Apollo Drive in East Kane, Wetmore Township.
A medical helicopter transported the boy to a hospital in Buffalo, N.Y. The extent of his injuries were unknown Tuesday evening.
The four persons in the vehicle did not sustain major injuries, according to Kane Fire Chief Tim Holt. The vehicle flipped onto its side and the ATV and boy were trapped beneath the wreckage, sources said.
Elvira "Ellie" Ann Watson, 79, died suddenly on Sunday, June 24, 2012 at the Pocono Medical Center, Stroudsburg. Born in Ridgway, daughter of Claude and Carrie Hostetlar Agens, she was the loving wife of Everett "Spot" Watson for 55 years. She was a member and past chaplain of the Eagles Club-Aerie "588."
