Marilyn E. (Egger) Smrekar

Marilyn E. (Egger) Smrekar, 85, of Roseland Ave., Seneca, died at 4:18 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 11, 2012 in the Golden Living Center of Oil City.
Born Sept. 28, 1927 in Ridgway, she was the daughter of the late Simon and Elizabeth Abplanalp Egger.
Marilyn graduated in 1945 from Ridgway High School.
She participated in various bowling leagues in Seneca.
Mrs. Smrekar was a member of the Seneca United Methodist Church.
She enjoyed flower gardening and watching games of both the Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers on television.

Charles B. Wolff

Charles B. Wolff, 85, of Daguscahonda, died on Wednesday evening, Oct. 10, 2012 at Christ the King Manor in DuBois following a brief illness.
He was born May 28, 1927 in St. Marys, a son of the late Miles R. and Margaret Watson Wolff.
On July 2, 1949 in Ridgway, he married E. Louise Eynon Wolff, who preceded him in death on Aug. 26, 1998.
Mr. Wolff retired from Stackpole Carbon as a truck driver and was a member of their Quarter Century Club. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was a member of the Ridgway Fire Dept. Auxiliary.

Jane "Jennie" Francis

Jane "Jennie" Francis, 93, of Silver Creek Terrace, St. Marys, formerly of Johnsonburg and St. Marys, died at the Elk Regional Health Center, St. Marys, Thursday morning, Oct. 11, 2012 following a brief illness.
She was born Sept. 3, 1919 in Johnsonburg, daughter of the late Stephen and Grace Scrivo Vavala.
She married William "Bill" Francis on March 6, 1943, he died in August of 1986.
She had resided in St. Marys for the past three years, had lived in Johnsonburg from 1987 to 2009 and had lived in St. Marys prior to 1987.

Woman charged with theft from local radio station waived to court

JOHNSONBURG - A Ridgway woman charged with theft after allegedly failing to return a laptop computer to her former employer following her resignation was in District Court Wednesday for a preliminary hearing before Magisterial District Judge George A. "Tony" King.

JOHNSONBURG – Playing on Johnsonburg's home field brought the same result as much of Ridgway's home matches at Francis S. Grandinetti Elementary School.
A victory for the Lady Elkers.
Ridgway started strong and controlled play for much of the match in a 5-0 victory over the Brockway Lady Rovers Wednesday night at Memorial Field in Johnsonburg.

BELLEFONTE – "It's a story of betrayal."
This is how presiding Senior Trial Court Judge John Cleland of Kane labels the child sexual abuse case against former Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky.
Cleland, speaking Tuesday before sentencing at a packed Centre County courtroom in Bellefonte, told the defendant "you abused trust in those who trusted you."

'Tickle Monster' to pay price for abusing children

BELLEFONTE – The "Tickle Monster" will be going to prison, most likely for the remainder of his life.
Jerry Sandusky, 68, convicted in June of molesting 10 young boys over a 15-year period, was sentenced Tuesday to spend a minimum of 30 years in prison. 
Senior Trial Judge John Cleland of Kane handed down the sentence at the Centre County Courthouse in Bellefonte.
