The High Power Hunting Rifle competition concluded Saturday at the high power range of the Ridgway Rifle Club as part of the NRA National Silhouette Championships.
Kenneth M. Haupricht (Johnsonburg) won the national championship with a 3-day score of 88.
Cathy Winstead-Severin (Joplin, Mo.) was the overall runner-up with a total of 86 and Mark Pharr (Round Rock, Texas) took third with a score of 83.
Enrique Kuess Jr. is leaving Ridgway with a pair of national championships.
The Laredo, Texas native won the national championship in high power standard rifle with a 3-day total of 100 (30-34-36) as the NRA National Silhouette Championships concluded Saturday at the high power range of the Ridgway Rifle Club.
Kuess Jr. also won the smallbore standard rifle national championship held earlier in the week at the Ridgway Rifle Club.
Carl W. Cook, 80, of 1102 Horner Rd., Wilcox, died Friday morning, August 9, 2013 at Elk Regional Health Center in St. Marys following a brief illness.
He was born July 7, 1933 in Hazel Hurst, son of the late Carl R. and Lillian Dippo Cook.
He married Beverly Marlene Johnson on November 20, 1954 in the Wilcox Presbyterian Church, and she survives.
Formerly of James City, he resided in Wilcox since 1958.
He was a graduate of the Kane High School and a member of the Wilcox Presbyterian Church and Wilcox Sportsmen's Club.
SPRING CREEK TWP. â€“ A journey well over 10 years in the making finally came to an end Friday afternoon as the residents of Spring Creek Township ushered in a new beginning with a ribbon-cutting ceremony to open the new William Tell Bridge.

Janet Rose Shelander, age 74, of Duffy Apartments, Johnsonburg, died at home Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2013 after a brief illness.
She was born June 17, 1939 in Ridgway, daughter of the late Edward and Stella (Kinny) Shelander.
She attended Johnsonburg schools and worked at Stackpole Carbon of Johnsonburg and St. Marys, Elcam, and the Deli of Johnsonburg Market Basket/Jubilee.
