ST. MARYS – Area residents took time to reflect on Thursday evening at a gathering at Memorial Park in St. Marys to honor four members of the community who died in a car crash Saturday. Those in attendance released balloons into the sky "In Memory of Gary and Elaine Beimel, Davey Cuneo and "Flossie" Donachy,"-- "In memory of those who have left us, may this light rise to the heavens to shine with you through all eternity."

Roger P. Griech, age 58, of 31361 Portland Mills Rd., Ridgway, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2013 at his residence.
He was born Oct. 14, 1954 in Baltimore, Md., son of the late Paul J. and Helen A. (Neely) Griech. He had resided in Portland Mills for most of his life and was a 1972 graduate of the Ridgway High School. He was a Catholic by faith. Roger was a past member of the American Legion and the Moose Club in Ridgway. He had been employed by Motion Control Industries for many years.

Kersey Motor Co. sustains severe fire damage

FOX TWP. – The Kersey Motor Company, an auto body repair shop located at 108 Zola Rd. in the Coal Hollow section of Fox Township, sustained significant damage during a Tuesday evening fire. The large steel-frame commercial building measuring 40-foot by 80-foot, is owned by Leo (Dave) Surra of Kersey. The fire was ruled accidental in nature and the business was closed and unoccupied at the time of the fire. Damage is estimated at $350,000.

St. Marys woman dies from rifle wound

ST. MARYS – A 48-year-old woman is dead after reportedly being gunned down early Tuesday morning at Eastern Sintered Alloys in St. Marys. An affidavit of probable cause filed Tuesday shed more light on the case.

Kersey Motor Co. goes up in flames

FOX TWP. – A fire broke out Tuesday evening at roughly 5:36 p.m. Tuesday at Kersey Motor Company located at 108 Zola Street in Fox Township, damaging the large commercial building owned by Leo (Dave) Surra of Kersey.

Scolari pleads guilty to arson charge

Michael Anthony Scolari, age 25, pleaded guilty to one felony count of arson as part of a plea bargain with the District Attorney's office stemming from a July 9, 2012 camper fire that occurred at his residence.
