Pauline K. Gebauer

September 30, 2012

Pauline K. Gebauer, 82, of Elk Towers,185 Center St., St. Marys, and formerly of 430 W. 6th St., Emporium, died at Elk Regional Health Center, St. Marys, on Friday evening, Sept. 28, 2012.
She was born Jan. 8, 1930 in DuBois, a daughter of the late Rudolph and Anna Kassawara.
On Oct. 18, 1958 in St. Mark Catholic Church, she married the late Gerhard Gebauer.

Grumley wins D-9 Class AA boys golf title

ST. MARYS – Cameron Grumley of Johnsonburg won the Class AA District 9 boys golf championship Saturday afternoon after the final round of play at Bavarian Hills Golf Course.
Grumley finished with a final-round 76, the best round of the day by four strokes and a 2-day total of 153 (77-76).
“It feels good,” Grumley said. “I played alright, I had some ups and downs but stuck with it. Elliott and Josh played well and we’re all making it to regionals.”

Ridgway dominates Kane boys soccer, 9-1

Ridgway boys soccer had little trouble in a 9-1 victory over Kane Saturday morning at Francis S. Grandinetti Elementary School.
Peter Pontzer scored the first goal of the game just past the 10-minute mark. Luke Bobby would push the Ridgway lead to 2-0 less than two minutes later off a long header and an assist from Justin Kinkead.
Pontzer added his second goal of the game with 17:58 remaining in the first half off an assist from Bryce Dias for a 3-0 lead. Matt Bobby would add a goal off an assist from Luke Bobby with 6:28 left for a 4-0 lead.

Ridgway football falters against Brockway, 38-14

September 29, 2012

After a strong first half by Ridgway football, Brockway would pull away in the second half for a 38-14 victory over the Elkers.
It took just over a minute and four plays for Brockway to receive the opening kickoff and drive right down the field. Quarterback Alec Shaffer-Doan would culminate the drive with an 8-yard touchdown run on a quarterback bootleg play to put the Rovers up 7-0.

Crusaders hold off Johnsonburg Rams

JOHNSONBURG – The Elk County Catholic Crusaders improved to 5-0 on Friday night as they took a 25-0 lead through three quarters and then held off an attempted fourth quarter rally by the Rams to come away with a 25-12 win on Friday night at Memorial Field.
The Crusaders racked up a total of 250 yards in the game, with team members rushing for 135 yards and 115 coming from the squad's passing game. Johnsonburg, on the other hand, relied heavily on passing, with 192 of their 214 yards coming on pass plays.

'Known associate' of Francis Milliard charged with drug offenses

JOHNSONBURG - Agents with the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) Pittsburgh Group, along with members of the Pennsylvania State Police, executed a federal search warrant on Wednesday morning at the residence of a Johnsonburg man in connection with an investigation of Francis Anthony Milliard, currently incarcerated on arson, attempted murder, and other charges.

North Central planning ahead for budget

Officials at the North Central Pennsylvania Regional Planning and Development Commission are working to finalize their budget as funding from various sources will continue to funnel through to the organization within the next several months.

James R. "Jim" Logue Jr., 76, of DuBois, died Thursday, Sept. 27, 2012 at his residence following a brief illness.
He was born March 9, 1936, in Brockway, son of the late James R. Sr. and Olevia (Kopp) Logue.
On Jan. 2, 1960, he married Rita M. (Perry) Logue, who survives.
Jim was a graduate of Brockway High School and a member of St. Michael the Archangel Church in DuBois.
He was the retired former owner of Logue’s Insurance Agency in Brockway. He also did sign painting, piano tuning and had a nightclub band for many years called "The Sounds of Music."

Ridgway boys golf downs Johnsonburg

Ridgway boys golf won 205-222 over Johnsonburg on a rainy Thursday afternoon at Laurel Mill Golf Course.
Individual medalist honors were split among four different golfers. Josh Roselli and T.J. Schlimm shot 39 for Ridgway while Cameron Grumley and Nate Burgeson did the same for Johnsonburg.
“Some nice playing under tough conditions for the first group,” Ridgway coach Dave Zawatski said. “Our depth once again was the difference.”
Jesse Reynolds had a 40 for Ridgway and Josh Mitchell followed with a 43. Morgan Eckenroth carded a 44.

Lady Elkers shut out ECC

ST. MARYS — The Ridgway Lady Elkers got a goal early in both halves of Thursday's girls' varsity soccer game at Benzinger Park in shutting out the home-standing Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders 2-0.
The Lady Crusaders have now failed to score in any five of their home games this season-- a total of 400 minutes of soccer.
In yesterday's contest, the Lady Crusaders managed just four shots at goal against Ridgway. The Lady Elkers finished with 13 shots and a four-to-none advantage in corners.
