JOHNSONBURG â€“ Johnsonburg Area School District superintendent Dennis Crotzer announced that the district has received a Small Rural School Achievement Award totaling $27,975 during a Thursday night school board meeting.
St. Marys volleyball won 3-1 (25-13, 25-18, 22-25, 25-12) over Ridgway in action Thursday night at Ridgway Area High School.
Early deficits were too much to overcome Thursday as the Johnsonburg Ramettes lost 3-0 (25-12, 25-7, 25-18) to visiting Bradford on the volleyball court.
The St. Marys Area Lady Dutch suffered their first loss of the season in a 7-0 defeat to the Ridgway Lady Elkers at the SMAHS soccer field.
Ridgway put on a strong performance led by Caitlin Viglione, who had four goals in the victory. Jenna DeAngelo, Julie Alford, and Angela DeAngelo each also scored for the Lady Elkers.
Stephen Augustine Mishenko, 80, died Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2013 at 7 p.m. at the Snyder Memorial Nursing Home, Marienville.â€¨He was born Sept. 22, 1932 at Clarion Avenue in the Vennard Island area of Johnsonburg. He was the son of the late Stephen J. and Anna (Kasaback/Kasubjak) Mishenko of Johnsonburg. He was a resident of Johnsonburg all his life.
He attended Holy Rosary School, West End School and the Johnsonburg High School.
Emma G. Cenni, age 87, of 315 B Ash St., Ridgway, died Tuesday evening, Sept. 10, 2013 following a lengthy illness.
She was born Sept. 6, 1925 in Brockport, daughter of the late Pastorino and Melinda (Contrini) Castagnari. She married Renato J. Cenni on Sept. 7, 1946; he preceded her in death in December of 1987.
She had resided in Ridgway for the last 13 years and was a former Brandy Camp resident. She was a member of St. Leo Catholic Church. She had been co-owner and operator with her husband of Cenni's Beer Distributor in Brandy Camp for 35 years.
The Footlighters will be performing "Wait Until Dark," a play by Frederick Knott on Sept. 19-21. The production will be a dinner theatre with doors opening at 5 p.m., dinner at 6:30 p.m. and the play to start at 7 p.m.
BROCKPORT â€“ The Horton Township Supervisors on Wednesday discussed upcoming Marcellus Shale activity within the township.
Ridgway boys soccer won for the second time in a row as the Elkers defeated Kane 4-1 on a hot Tuesday afternoon at Francis S. Grandinetti Elementary School.
At their regular meeting Tuesday evening, Ridgway Area School District Superintendent Dr. Michael O'Brien reported on new standards for Pennsylvania's Educator Effectiveness Project in which the district has participated in since the 2012-2013 school year.
