JOHNSONBURG â€“ Bradford girls basketball was able to outscore Johnsonburg 12-3 in the fourth quarter to take a 62-53 win Monday night at Johnsonburg Area High School.
Johnsonburg was able to play even with the defending District 9 Class AAA champions who were 24-1 last season and undefeated in the regular season. The two teams were tied at 50 after three quarters.
The Elk County Courthouse was the setting Monday for jury selection in the trial of Francis Anthony Milliard, 55, of Ridgway, charged with arson and insurance fraud after allegedly conspiring to burn down his 115 Front St. property in Johnsonburg in a fire that occurred on Dec. 4, 2008.
The courtroom swelled with a pool of roughly 120 potential jurors from which attorneys would choose just 12 primary jurors and two alternates to serve in the upcoming three-day trial set to begin Jan. 30, 2013.

Stanford L. Anderson, 84, of 319 East Fifth St., Warren, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012 at Warren General Hospital.
Stanford was born April 18, 1928, in Ridgway to the late Carl G. Anderson and Sarah B. Raybuck Anderson.Â He attended grade school, junior high school and senior high school.Â
Erma E. Yale, age 83, of Daniel Street, Brockport, died Sunday, Dec. 9, 2012, at her residence.
She was born Feb. 20, 1929, in Coal Hollow, Elk County, daughter of Guido and Catherine Baruffalo Zuccolotto.
He was married to Raymond S. "Sparkey" Yale, he preceded her in death Nov. 23, 2011.
She was a member at Holy Cross Church in Brandy Camp.
Erma was a member of the Blue Army at Holy Cross. She had been employed at Brockway Glass in the decorating department before her retirement.

DuBOIS â€“ It turned out to be a perfect weekend for Johnsonburg boys basketball at the Cardinal Classic.
Johnsonburg would win both of their games at the Classic, culminating the weekend with a 70-33 victory over host DuBois Central Catholic Saturday night at DuBois Central Catholic High School.
Johnsonburg won 60-45 over North Catholic Friday night in the season opener at DCC.
DuBOIS â€“ At the season's onset, Ridgway senior point guard Jesse Reynolds had the added responsibility placed upon him of leading the scoring load.
After Saturday's game against North Catholic, he showed he can handle that and then some.
Reynolds led the Elkers with 35 points and nearly carried Ridgway to overtime singlehandedly before a late field goal gave North Catholic a 60-58 overtime win over Ridgway Saturday night at the Cardinal Classic hosted by DuBois Central Catholic High School.
With the Elk County sheriff's department reportedly facing a projected budget deficit of approximately $9,000 and the board of commissioners unwilling to cover the monetary figure, sheriff Jeffrey C. Krieg said Sunday night that he, along with chief deputy Theresa Merritt, will be working "until all this is settled."

"It was an ugly win for as many turnovers as we had," Johnsonburg coach Mike Zilkofski said. "They were just out of sync. I practiced breaking the press all week and it was just out of sync. We threw the ball around."
