Ridgway boys soccer finished their season with a 3-3 tie against Curwensville Thursday afternoon.
Ridgway honored their seniors before the game, the seniors are Kyle Jacobs, Dustin Cowan, Brandon Wildnauer, Joe Horning, Ben Izbinski and Mason Stark.
Donald Edward Smitley of Dunbar, PA, went to be with his Lord & Savior, Jesus Christ, on Tuesday, October 15, 2013 at home.
He was born April 25, 1956 in Connellsville, PA, son of the late Howard R. Smitley and Betty Klink Smitley.
Don was a wonderful husband, father, brother, & friend.
He was a Union Secretary of the former Foseco Corp., a member of the Old Time Fiddlers, Irishtown Sportsman Club, Dunbar Boys Blue Grass Band, & a member & superintendant of Pechin Chapel.
He worked as a lift operator for Sony.
John L. Leathers, 82, of State College died on Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2013 at home after a long battle with cancer. He was born July 30, 1931 in Ridgway, the youngest of four sons, to the late Ira Bartram Leathers and Hazel Minnick Leathers.
On Aug. 23, 1958, he married Gretchen Ashbaugh Leathers, who survives.
Tom Copella, a Kersey native, returned to the area five years ago and continues to create the beautiful artwork he has done nearly all his life.
"Seventh grade, somewhere around there I started painting," Copella said. "I had a teacher that liked it, so i thought it was something to do."
Brockway boys soccer won 6-0 over Ridgway Tuesday afternoon at Francis S. Grandinetti Elementary School.
Brockway had balanced scoring as Aaron Barraclough, Jarrett Esposito and James Matson each had a pair of goals.
KANE â€“ An affidavit of probable cause filed in Magisterial District Court 48-3-04 shows Kathleen S. Douglas, age 37, of North Tionesta Avenue, Kane, had "levels of the Schedule IV controlled substance Clonazepam (that) were several times greater than they should have been given the dosage prescribed" when she was involved in a fatal crash that killed six people.
JOHNSONBURG â€“ Johnsonburg residents from the Terra Cotta and Clarion Heights area attended Monday afternoon's borough council meeting to voice their concerns over lengthy train stops at the Grant St. train tracks.
The momentum is there for Ridgway girls soccer heading into the postseason.
Ridgway extended their winning streak to 10 after a 5-1 victory over Brockway Monday afternoon at Francis S. Grandinetti Elementary School.
"Across the board, solid play. Every one of them," Ridgway coach Greg Maddalena said. "They know I wasn't real happy with the last performance against Smethport. They just stepped their game up as a team. That's all I want. We're such a balanced team, we have the athletes to do it. We just got to do it."
Ridgway boys golf captured the AML championship Saturday over Brookville.
The Elkers won 316-345 over the Raiders to capture the AML crown for the second year in a row.
Area residents and youth on Saturday gathered at the carnival grounds for the Ridgway Fire Department's Open House event.
