Emma G. Cenni, age 87, of 315 B Ash St., Ridgway, died Tuesday evening, Sept. 10, 2013 following a lengthy illness.
She was born Sept. 6, 1925 in Brockport, daughter of the late Pastorino and Melinda (Contrini) Castagnari. She married Renato J. Cenni on Sept. 7, 1946; he preceded her in death in December of 1987.
She had resided in Ridgway for the last 13 years and was a former Brandy Camp resident. She was a member of St. Leo Catholic Church. She had been co-owner and operator with her husband of Cenni's Beer Distributor in Brandy Camp for 35 years.
The Footlighters will be performing "Wait Until Dark," a play by Frederick Knott on Sept. 19-21. The production will be a dinner theatre with doors opening at 5 p.m., dinner at 6:30 p.m. and the play to start at 7 p.m.
BROCKPORT â€“ The Horton Township Supervisors on Wednesday discussed upcoming Marcellus Shale activity within the township.
Ridgway boys soccer won for the second time in a row as the Elkers defeated Kane 4-1 on a hot Tuesday afternoon at Francis S. Grandinetti Elementary School.
At their regular meeting Tuesday evening, Ridgway Area School District Superintendent Dr. Michael O'Brien reported on new standards for Pennsylvania's Educator Effectiveness Project in which the district has participated in since the 2012-2013 school year.
Leo W. Biel, 90, of 5861 Glen Hazel Rd., Wilcox, died Tuesday morning, Sept. 10, 2013, at Pinecrest Manor in St. Marys following a short illness.
He was born April 11, 1923 in Portage, son of the late John and Anna Biel Biel.
He married Doris Rosa Hamilton on Sept. 20, 1947 in Brockway, and she preceded him in death on March 12, 2003.
He resided in Wilcox all his life and attended Wilcox schools. He was a member of Holy Cross Church in Rasselas.
JOHNSONBURG â€“ At their regular meeting Monday evening, the Johnsonburg Borough Council recounted the success of last weekend's Harvest Festival.
WILCOX â€“ The Jones Township Supervisors on Monday discussed their recent correspondence with several drilling companies concerning Act 13 notifications. Two notifications were received for Jones Township along with one for Wetmore Township.
The Ridgway Armory along North Broad Street and the former Pennsylvania Army National Guard weekend training site at 5509 Grant Road were recently posted for sale after officials from the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs [DMVA] discussed the process during a Ridgway Borough Council meeting back in July.
The Elk County Catholic Crusader soccer team claimed another Elk County Boys Soccer Tournament title on Saturday afternoon, this year by shutting out the Redbank Valley Bulldogs 3-0.
ECC advanced to the championship match by defeating the Ridgway Elkers 4-1 on Friday afternoon while Redbank had won 3-1 over St. Marys Area.
