Johnsonburg Borough adds vehicle to fleet

JOHNSONBURG – The Johnsonburg Borough held their regular meeting on Monday at 4 p.m. in the borough building to discuss possible changes to the community building, as well as new changes to the borough’s police department.
Mayor Theresa Cherry started the meeting by offering her congratulations to Johnsonburg Area High School alumnus Mike Shuey for his recent success at the 2014 North America, Central America and Caribbean U-23 Championships in Canada.

Supervisors discuss community building changes

JONES TWP. – The Jones Township Supervisors met Monday at 6:30 p.m. in the Wilcox community building to discuss needed road work, repair work to the community building and the recent water issues along Marvin Street.
Areas of Faries Street, Lindsay Street and Lawrence Street all have been found to have problems with sinkholes resulting from the separation of pipes.

St. Marys woman headbutts patrol car

BENEZETTE TWP. – A St. Marys woman is charged in damaging a State Police patrol car with her head against it while police were questioning her.
Matraca Rae Polinick, 23, of 606 Lenze Ave., faces misdemeanor charges of institutional vandalism, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct, as well as a summary charge of public drunkenness and similar misconduct.

St. Leo's Festival sees large turnout

The St. Leo’s Festival was again blessed with great weather and the same could be said about the crowd. Kids were enjoying the bounce houses and slides, playing mini-golf and taking a train tour around the grounds.
There also were food vendors, games, and a place to buy trinket mementos for all ages along with a tribute to “Elvis” by Bobby Calla with music backup by The Hammer.

Jolly Wranglers 4WD to host "Show & Shine For Charity" event

On Saturday, Aug. 23, the Jolly Wranglers 4WD Club will be hosting its event, "Show & Shine For Charity" that will support flood relief efforts in the Ridgway area following the May 21 flood.
Jolly Wranglers 4WD is an off-road club located in Ridgway that is comprised of members who enjoy exploring back roads in four-wheel drive vehicles, as well as giving back to the community in any way they can. Following the May 21 flood, the club saw an opportunity to give back to the community.

Stanley J. "Stash" Myslinski Jr., 82, of 5415 Ridgway-Johnsonburg Rd., Johnsonburg, died Friday afternoon, Aug. 8, 2014 at Penn Highlands Elk in St. Marys following a brief illness.
He was born Feb. 12, 1932 in Johnsonburg, son of the late Stanley and Helen Machoviak Myslinski.
On Sept. 2, 1961 in Arcade, N.Y., he married Elaine Wolford. She died Jan. 13, 2004.
He resided in Johnsonburg all his life and graduated from Johnsonburg High School in 1949.
He was a member of Holy Rosary Church, Johnsonburg Elks Club, and loved hunting, gardening, baking and cooking.

Briggs cites "illegal practices" in resignation

Ridgway Township Municipal Authority treasurer Bill Briggs resigned his position as the authority's treasurer, citing illegal practices as the reason behind his resignation.
The authority's chairman, Ed LaValle, read Briggs' resignation letter at an authority meeting Thursday night.
"Due to what I feel are illegal practices, I am informing you that I can no longer serve as the treasurer of the authority, effective immediately," LaValle read from Briggs' letter.

Donna Mae Feronti, 76, of 21 Penn Ave., Ridgway, died Thursday, Aug. 7, 2014 at Penn Highlands Elk.
A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, she was born Aug. 15, 1937 in St. Marys, daughter of the late John M. and Lottie M. Kassawara Kronenwetter.
On Jan. 14, 1961, she married Noel E. Feronti, he survives. She was a member of St. Leo's Catholic Church. She was a graduate of Central Catholic High School, Class of 1956. Mae enjoyed traveling, cooking, knitting, crocheting, gardening and raising flowers. She loved spending time with her grandchildren.
