Bath salts found during traffic stop

ST. MARYS – St. Marys City Police found numerous controlled substances and several items of drug paraphernalia during a traffic stop on Taft Road on June 24.

Tractor tire runs over Kane boy, 8

WETMORE TWP. – An 8-year-old Kane boy was seriously injured Monday morning when he was run over by a large tire on a runaway tractor in Wetmore Township.
The name of the boy has not been disclosed.
The Kane Volunteer Fire Department responded to the call on Old State Road in Wetmore Township about 10:20 a.m. Monday, Kane Fire Chief Tim Holt said.
About 15 firefighters were at the scene with the rescue truck, Emergycare Ambulance of Kane and State Police, according to the fire chief.
The ambulance transported the boy to Kane Community Hospital.

Motorcyclist is hurt

MT. JEWETT – A motorcyclist was injured Monday afternoon in an accident on Lindholm Road near the Kinzua Bridge State Park.
The Mt. Jewett Volunteer Fire Department, Mt. Jewett Ambulance and Emergycare Ambulance of Kane responded to the accident.
The motorcyclist was transported to Kane Community Hospital.
No further details were available late Monday night.

Margaret E. “Betty” Victor

Margaret E. “Betty” Victor, 80, who died recently, was born July 26, 1933 in Ridgway.
She was the daughter of the late Lyle T. Shaver and Mary Law Shaver.
She was a graduate of the Ridgway Area schools. After graduating, she took a position as an administrative assistant at International Powdered Metals Company.
In 1955, she married M.T. “Spike” Victor. She became a homemaker and raised her beloved stepdaughters, Carol Swanson, Peggy Howard, and Marcia Dunton. She was later blessed to have two children of her own, Michael and Frank Victor.

Corbett visits Ridgway, attends NRA banquet, radio interview

Governor Tom Corbett toured the region Saturday before arriving in Ridgway for several speaking engagements.
After visiting the Jefferson County Fair in the afternoon, Corbett arrived at The Hound radio station in Ridgway at roughly 4:45 p.m. to meet with local philanthropist Denny Heindl for an interview for "Talk of the Town" which aired Sunday at noon.
Corbett, with a State Police escort, arrived at the station in a black Chevrolet Suburban. There he met briefly with Elk County Republican Chairperson Grace Jesberger before entering the station building with Heindl.

Kersey motorcyclist killed in crash

FOX TWP. – The Ridgway-based state police report that a truck-motorcycle collision on Boone Mountain Road, 2,018 feet west of an unnamed street at 1:51 p.m. on Sunday, July 20 resulted in the death of a Kersey resident.
According to police, 20-year-old Robert D. Watts was reportedly operating a 2008 Kawasaki KLX450R traveling east on Boone Mountain Road in the westbound lane of travel and a 2005 Dodge Ram 3500 operated by Alan J. Mazzaferro, 61, of Weedville, was traveling west in the westbound lane. The motorcycle struck the front end of the Dodge while cresting a hill in the roadway.

Governor responds to widespread drug abuse
