Kane swipes doubleheader from Ridgway

Visiting Kane overpowered Ridgway Thursday with a 12-2 win in the first game that lasted six innings followed by a close 6-5 contest called due to darkness after five innings of play.
The Elkers were doomed in the first game by a big fourth inning that saw Kane put eight runs on the board.

Johnsonburg softball sweeps doubleheader over Sheffield

JOHNSONBURG – Johnsonburg softball swept a doubleheader with Sheffield Thursday at Knothole Area Recreational Park.
The Ramettes won 13-12 in eight innings then followed up with a 19-0 win in three innings.
"They really were doing well at hitting," Johnsonburg coach Melissa Myers said. "Our girls were coming around. That's what I've been wanting to see them do. We had a couple errors in the first game, I think that's what kept the game close. You try to work all the girls in and give them a chance. We stuck with it and pulled through."

JOHNSONBURG – Visiting DuBois Central Catholic used several big offensive innings despite heavy rainfall to drop Johnsonburg 18-3 Monday in a shortened four-inning contest.
The Lady Cardinals took advantage of 12 few passes en route to a 15-run victory that started out as a close contest.

Elk County Catholic tops Golden Tide 15-5 in baseball

ST. MARYS – The Elk County Catholic Crusaders pounded out 13 hits on their way to a 15-5, five-inning victory over the visiting Curwensville Golden Tide at Berwind Park on Monday afternoon. The Crusaders used two pitchers in the five-inning game. Starter Joe Childs set the tone for the Crusaders as he limited the Golden Tide to just three hits and one run in his three innings of work. Pat Brennen came on to pitch the final two innings, giving up four hits and four runs.

Elk County Catholic wins via 10-run rule over Elkers

Elk County Catholic used two big innings and dominant pitching for an 11-1, 5-inning win over Ridgway Friday afternoon at Sandy Beach Recrational Park.
Ben Daghir threw four innings and gave up three hits, walking none and striking out seven. He was 1-for-2 with two runs scored and one RBI in addition to a walk.

Lady Crusaders edge Lady Elkers, 2-0 in pitcher's duel

ST. MARYS – Taylor Schlimm of Elk County Catholic recorded her third straight shutout win as the Lady Crusaders nipped the Ridgway Lady Elkers by a 2-0 score in a softball game played on Friday afternoon at the Benzinger Park field.
Schlimm and Taylor Roseto of Ridgway were locked in a pitchers' duel through the contest, as both hurlers pitched excellent games. Schlimm gave up four hits, struck out 10 and issued no walks in the game. Roseto allowed just three hits and struck out 12 while issuing three walks and hitting two batters.

Dutch tennis team defeats Elk Catholic 8-1 Friday

ST. MARYS – The St. Marys Area Flying Dutch tennis team improved to 2-0 on the season with an 8-1 victory over the Elk County Catholic Crusaders Friday afternoon in a match played at the SMAHS courts.
At first singles, Dutchman Nathan Hansen defeated Shane Mancuso 6-0, 6-3.
At second singles, SMA’s Brandon Romain defeated Ben Wortman 6-1, 6-0.
Dutchman Keith Meyer won his match 6-0, 6-0 over Nate Dattoli at third singles.
At fourth singles, Dutchman Dylan Wiesner defeated Scot Reichard 6-0, 6-2.
Thomas Murmann of the Dutch downed Jon Leuschel 6-3, 6-0 at fifth singles.

Ridgway baseball edges DuBois Central Catholic, 4-3

Ridgway baseball won its second game this week with a 4-3 victory over DuBois Central Catholic Thursday at Sandy Beach Recreational Park.
Ridgway (2-2) scored once in the second inning on a double from D.J. Skraba and an RBI single by Alex Dickant. In the third, Ridgway added two more to take a 3-0 lead on three straight singles from Jesse Reynolds, Josh Mitchell and Kevin Kilhoffer.
The Cardinals came back to make it 3-2 with single runs in the fourth and fifth innings. Ridgway scored its fourth run on a single by Reynolds and a double by Skraba.

Johnsonburg baseball wins pitcher's duel over Curwensville, 1-0

JOHNSONBURG – Both the Johnsonburg and Curwensville coaches agreed the pitching is ahead of the hitting at this early juncture of the season.
The Rams had timely hitting in the fourth for the lone run of the game to propel Johnsonburg to a 1-0 win over the Golden Tide Thursday at Knothole Area Recreational Park.
