Rams go to title game

ST. MARYS – The Johnsonburg Rams used 12 hits on their way to a 10-3 victory over the St. Marys Area Flying Dutchmen in the opening game of the Elk County Baseball Tournament played at Berwind Park.
The Rams will meet the Elk County Catholic Crusaders today at noon in the championship game. Elk Catholic beat Ridgway 8-1 in the second game Friday. St. Marys and Ridgway were to meet at 10 a.m. this morning in the consolation game.
The Rams used strong hitting and aggressive base running to record the victory. Their pitchers, while not overpowering, were able to record the outs.

Lady Elkers win consolation game

Ridgway softball rebounded to take the consolation game of the Elk County Softball Tournament, 14-7, over Johnsonburg Friday at Francis S. Grandinetti Elementary School.
Ridgway scratched across a run in the first. Jenna Hoffman drew a walk and would later score on a long single from Ashley Viglione.

Crusaders down Elkers, 8-1 to advance to title game

ST. MARYS – The Elk County Catholic Crusader baseball team used the one-hit pitching of Luke Daghir to advance to the finals of the Elk County Baseball Tournament with an 8-1 win over the Ridgway Elkers Friday at Berwind Park.
Elk Catholic takes on Johnsonburg today at noon for the tournament title.
Daghir gave up a single, walked one and struck out seven for Elk Catholic.
Josh Mitchell started on the mound for Ridgway, going 5 2/3 innings and giving up eight hits, walking five and striking out eight. Kevin Kilhoffer worked 1/3 of an inning of relief.

Lady Crusaders overwhelm Ridgway in 2-hit shutout

Other than back-to-back singles to start the top of the second inning, Elk County Catholic's pitching held the Lady Elkers' bats in check in a 14-0 five-inning game Friday in the first round of the Elk County Softball Tournament.
The Lady Crusaders exploded for 16 hits Friday afternoon in the opening game of the tournament and brought the entire lineup to bat in each of the first three innings. The recipe for success worked as ECC did not allow a Ridgway baserunner to score.

Clutch hitting, pitching spells win for Lady Dutch, 10-2

The Lady Dutch took advantage of timely hitting and a starting pitching performance that was at times overpowering in a 10-2 win Friday in the first round of the Elk County Softball Tournament.
St. Marys sent Rachel Ginther to the pitcher's circle and she responded to the challenge by striking out eight batters in three innings of work. Ginther allowed two hits, both infield singles, and another baserunner on an error, en route to the victory.
By the time Ginther was pulled, St. Marys already had an 8-0 lead after three innings.

Johnsonburg pitching trio shuts down Brockway Rovers, 7-0

JOHNSONBURG – The Rams continued their pitching prowess Thursday with an effective troika on the hill to halt visiting Brockway, 7-0.
Starting pitcher Cole Peterson was complemented in relief by Mitchell Holmberg and Zac Luhr en route to the three-hit shutout.
Freshman Cameron Grumley had a career-day as he went 2-for-2, crossed the plate four times, brought in another two runs and nailed a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to put an exclamation point on the 7-0 win.

Ramettes take pair of wins from Lady Wolves

JOHNSONBURG – The Johnsonburg Ramettes finished Wednesday with a pair of wins over Kane at Knothole Area Recreational Park.
The Ramettes won 12-5 in the regularly scheduled game and finished a suspended game with a 16-2 win in five innings. The Ramettes led 12-2 coming into the fifth inning and scored four runs in the top of the fifth.
"The two wins helped us, I think our record is at 5-3," Johnsonburg coach Melissa Myers said. "With the weather being so bad and not being able to play, the girls were really looking forward to that."

Lady Crusaders down DuBois Central Catholic

ST. MARYS – The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders picked up their eighth win of the season on Wednesday afternoon in frigid temperatures as they defeated the visiting DuBois Central Catholic Lady Cardinals by a 3-0 score.
Taylor Schlimm recorded her seventh shutout of the season as she went the distance in striking out 13, issuing no walks and giving up four hits.
Taylor Thomas took the loss for the DuBois Central girls as she gave up six hits, struck out two and issued five free passes.

Johnsonburg rallies for 6-4 win over Crusaders

JOHNSONBURG – Johnsonburg baseball rallied with a 4-run sixth inning to take a 6-4 victory over Elk County Catholic Monday afternoon at Knothole Area Recreational Park.
The Crusaders had a 4-2 lead entering the home half of the sixth inning but the Rams sent nine hitters to the plate en route to taking the lead. Mitchell Holmberg led the inning off by being hit by a pitch. He moved to second on a passed ball. After a flyout, Zac Luhr singled up the middle to move Holmberg to third and Quinn Luhr followed with a single of his own to plate Holmberg, pushing the lead to 4-3.

Johnsonburg softball falls in six innings against Lady Rovers, 14-2

JOHNSONBURG – Brockway's Jalina Sabatose broke through Monday afternoon for a 5-RBI performance as the visiting Lady Rovers halted the Ramettes in six innings, 14-2.
While both teams saw consistent hitting from the first six batters of their respective lineups, it was Brockway who broke through as the top six accounted for seven of the team's 14 runs. The Ramettes mustered only two runs the entire game.
