Lady Elkers defeat Lady Dutch

Despite dropping the first set, Ridgway regrouped Thursday night to top St. Marys 3-1 (12-25, 25-20, 25-13, 25-14) to move to 5-0 in regular season play.
“We started off slow [Thursday] and St. Marys has some really nice hard hitters,” said Ridgway head girls varsity volleyball coach Janet Redmond. “They had some really good serves that really caught us off guard, we just couldn’t return them.
“We had some problems with that and we just didn’t move.”

Lady Elkers go 3-1 in golf match

Laurel Mill Golf Course in Ridgway hosted a 6-team golf match Thursday and Ridgway took home a 3-1 showing,
“Our girls continued their great play with a 3-1 record on the day,” said Ridgway head girls golf coach Gary Gerber II.
Ridgway seniors Brittanei Neubert and Selena Scarnati continue to be near the top of the leaderboard after spending the last week trading medalist honors.
Neubert paced the Lady Elkers with 49 but medalist honors went to Savannah Brosky of Brockway, who made it to the clubhouse with 46. Scarnati carded a 54 for the day.

Ramettes lose to Bradford

JOHNSONBURG – Johnsonburg volleyball lost 3-0 (25-10, 25-16, 25-17) against Bradford in action at Johnsonburg Area High School Thursday night.
After winning the first set by a 25-10 score, Bradford scored the first two points of the second set before the Ramettes answered with two of their own, highlighted by a Chelsea Benson kill. The teams then alternated the next four points before Johnsonburg scored three of the next four to take a 7-5 lead.

Rams fall to Kane

JOHNSONBURG – Johnsonburg boys soccer lost 3-0 to Kane Thursday night at Memorial Field in Johnsonburg.
The Rams and Wolves played a fairly even first half with Kane holding just a 1-0 lead entering halftime.
In the second half, Kane scored with 15:30 and 6:14 remaining to ice the game away on a crisp night.

Johnsonburg girls tennis downs Clearfield, 9-0

JOHNSONBURG – Johnsonburg girls tennis won its first match of the season with a 9-0 sweep of Clearfield Wednesday afternoon at Johnsonburg Area High School.
“I feel good for them, they work hard,” Johnsonburg coach Gregg Dauber said. “They were there, they were there the last several matches. They’re close, they finally broke through. I’m happy for them. It’s not from a lack of effort, they work really hard.”
At No. 1 singles, Taylor Scida won 6-1, 6-2 over Lauren Whitmer of Clearfield. Riley Fannin of Johnsonburg was victorious at No. 2 singles with a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Yesh Patel.

Ridgway boys golf wins tri-match

ST. MARYS – The St. Marys Area High School golf team split with Ridgway and Kane on Wednesday afternoon as they defeated the Kane Wolves 223-257, but lost to the Ridgway Elkers 208-223 on Wednesday afternoon at the Bavarian Hills Golf Course.
Ridgway’s Jesse Reynolds was the overall medalist for the day with a three-over-par round of 38. Kane’s Ryan Greto led his team with a 44. Low scorers for St. Marys Area were Rudy Gleixner and Sam Miller with 40s.

Lady Elkers down Lady Dutch

ST. MARYS – The Ridgway Lady Elker soccer team handed the St. Marys Area Lady Dutch a 4-1 loss Wednesday afternoon in a match played at the SMAHS soccer field.
St. Marys came out the aggressor in the match, but could not keep the pressure on the Ridgway defense as they were not able to get a shot on goal in the early going.
Ridgway got on the board first when Rhianon Fowler scored with 33:32 left in the first half. She would score at the 20:25 mark, giving the Lady Elkers a 2-0 lead at the half.

Elker golf defeats Bradford

Ridgway boys golf was victorious Tuesday afternoon with a 207-223 victory over Bradford at Laurel Mill Golf Course.
Jordan Lundin led Ridgway with a 40. Josh Mitchell, Jesse Reynolds and Jake Klawuhn all carded scores of 41. Eric Matheson rounded out the top five with a 44.
T.J. Schlimm finished with a 46 and Josh Roselli had a mark of 48. Matt Aiello carded a 49 for the Elkers.
Bradford’s Josh Stauffer earned medalist honors with a 39. Jeff Cattoni had a 45 for the Owls. Tom Morlock and Josh Mongillo each had scores of 46 and Seth Mollander had a score of 47.

Ridgway boys soccer falls to Kane

A pivotal 10-minute stretch in the second half helped Kane win 3-0 against Ridgway in boys soccer action Tuesday afternoon at Francis S. Grandinetti Elementary School in Ridgway.
After a scoreless first half, Kane was able to finally break through three minutes into the second half as Jack Wolfe assisted on a goal by Will Carley to put the Wolves ahead 1-0. Carley returned the favor a little over eight minutes later as he assisted on a finish by Wolfe for a 2-goal lead in Kane’s favor.

Ridgway football downs Smethport

It was a clean sweep for Eric Matheson Saturday night.
Matheson had all 28 of Ridgway's points as Ridgway won its home opener 28-7 over Smethport at Memorial Field in Ridgway.
Matheson had four total touchdowns and four extra points. Ridgway coach Mark Heindl said Matheson's determination is something the other players are trying to input into their own effort.
"Eric is a hard-nosed kid. He's one of those kids that will do anything at any time for anybody to help the team win," Heindl said.
