JOHNSONBURG â€“ The Johnsonburg Ramettes were unable to recover from a key second quarter run as the Curwensville Lady Tide left town Tuesday night with a 60-47 victory.
The visitors had three players in double digits led by Ciara Strickland with 26 points, Shauna Guy with 12, and Kayli Sedgwick with 11.
JOHNSONBURG â€“ After ending 2014 with two losses at the Elk County Holiday Tournament, Johnsonburg boys basketball opened 2015 with a 52-30 win over Bradford Monday night at Johnsonburg Area High School.
Johnsonburg coach Bill Shuey said it was a good win against a quality opponent and noted chemistry and team play as keys to the victory.
The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusader basketball team remained unbeaten on the year as they handed the Sheffield Lady Wolverines a 68-19 Allegheny Mountain League North Division loss Friday night at the ECCHS gym.
Elk Catholic opened a 22-4 lead after the first eight minutes and never looked back.

ST. MARYS â€“ Ridgway girls basketball won the 2014 girls junior varsity tournament, defeating Elk County Catholic 25-21 Tuesday night at Elk County Catholic High School.
"It feels awesome to win this tournament," Ridgway junior varsity coach Dina Fullem said. "I am really proud of the girls. They really wanted to win tonight and their efforts on the court proved it. The smiles on their faces at the end of the game said it all."
Emily Fullem led Ridgway with a game-high 14 points while Cassidy Cunningham had 13 points for the Lady Crusaders.
The Ridgway Elkers captured the 2014 Elk County Boys Holiday Basketball Tournament Saturday night at the St. Marys Area High School Dutch Oven by defeating the Elk County Catholic Crusaders by a 37-33 score in overtime.
ST. MARYS â€“ Macy Neureiter maximized her points from the outside Saturday night just like ECC's senior class maximized their performance at the Elk County Holiday Tournament.
Neureiter finished with 20 points and six three-pointers as Elk County Catholic won 47-26 over Johnsonburg in the girls championship game of the tournament Saturday night at St. Marys Area High School.
"Macy, she's steady. She's been steady for a couple years now," Elk County Catholic coach Ken Pistner said. "Once she starts to make some outside shots, it sort of opens up for us on the inside too."
The St. Marys Area Flying Dutchmen picked up their first home victory of the season playing as the visitors in the SMAHS Dutch Oven on Saturday afternoon. After a close first half, the Dutch were able to open up a little breathing room against the Johnsonburg Rams in the second half and held on for a 54-44 win in the Elk County Boys' Basketball Holiday Tournament consolation game.
St. Marys girls basketball picked up its first win of the season with a 49-32 victory over Ridgway Saturday afternoon in the girls consolation game of the Elk County Holiday Tournament held at St. Marys Area High School.
Ridgway boys basketball advanced to the championship game of the Elk County Holiday Tournament with a 47-36 win over Johnsonburg Friday night at St. Marys Area High School in the tournament's opening round.
JOHNSONBURG â€“Â Johnsonburg senior Brianna Cardoni was shut out in regulation but scored three timely points in overtime Friday afternoon to help clinch a 29-26 victory in overtime over Ridgway in the first round of the Elk County Holiday Basketball Tournament.
The Ramettes are scheduled to play Elk County Catholic tonight at 6:30 p.m. for the county crown.
Johnsonburg held a slim lead throughout the game until the end of the third quarter as a jumper from Kiersten Hinton gave the Lady Elkers an 18-16 lead going into the fourth quarter.
