Crusaders rally past DCC Cardinals 13-12

The Elk County Catholic Crusader baseball team never gave up on Wednesday afternoon during a tough game against the DuBois Central Catholic Cardinals in a contest that was originally scheduled to be played in DuBois, but was then moved to Berwind Park in St. Marys. Down 12-10 headed into the bottom of the seventh, the Crusaders rallied to come back from a 13-12 victory, with the winning run driven in on a walk-off single by Joe McLaughlin.

Shuey earns Fulton scholarship

JOHNSONBURG – Johnsonburg senior Michael Shuey earned the Third Annual Coach [Bill] Fulton Memorial Scholarship during a banquet Sunday evening to honor the school's basketball teams.
"There is a memorial scholarship in his name that is awarded to a senior after an essay is written by them," said Johnsonburg head boys varsity basketball coach Bill Shuey. "It's unfortunate that none of his daughters were able to attend but I do have a letter to read on the family's behalf."
The letter discussed coach Fulton's impact on Johnsonburg basketball and his love for the game.

Johnsonburg wrestling honored with banquet

WILCOX – The Johnsonburg varsity wrestling team was honored with a banquet Sunday afternoon at The Dam Inn in Wilcox.
Varsity head coach Mike Votano introduced the awardwinners. Michael Kennedy won the Aaron Muroski Award. The award goes to an individual that is willing to do anything necessary to help the team. He is dependable, attends practices, works hard and willing to help other wrestlers. He is team leader, supports his teammates and an outstanding representative of the team and the school.

Johnsonburg tennis falls to DuBois, 7-2

JOHNSONBURG – Johnsonburg boys tennis lost 7-2 to DuBois in action Tuesday at Johnsonburg Area High School.
Johnsonburg won its two matches in doubles. At No. 1 doubles, the team of John Paul Allegretto and Mason Martonik won 8-1 over Aaron Lines and Zack Hopkins. Nate Field and Tommy Imbrogno won 8-6 over Micah Shaffer and Jeff Meinert at No. 2 doubles.
"John Paul Allegretto and Mason Martonik stayed undefeated in doubles," Johnsonburg coach Gregg Dauber said. "They actually played very well. Nate and Tommy are undefeated in doubles too, they played really well."

Junior High wrestlers honored with banquet

WILCOX - The Johnsonburg junior high wrestlers were honored with a banquet Sunday afternoon at The Dam Inn in Wilcox.
Junior high head coach Tim Raubenstrauch introduced the four wrestlers on the team this season. Cheyenne Copello was one of the wrestlers and Raubenstrauch said she was a leader on the team.

Rams shut out ECC

ST. MARYS – The Johnsonburg Rams picked up a 7-0 shutout victory over the Elk County Catholic Crusaders at Berwind Park on Monday afternoon. Cole Peterson went the distance for the Rams, giving up just two hits while striking out 14.

Ramettes scorched by ECC

JOHNSONBURG – Taylor Schlimm gave up only one hit Monday afternoon as Elk County Catholic won a 20-0 3-inning shutout over host Johnsonburg.
ECC erupted for 18 runs in a marathon second inning while Schlimm systematically shut down the Ramettes in the 1-hit win. She struck out six batters en route to the shutout.
The visiting Lady Crusaders opened up with a run in the first inning but broke the game open with an 18-run second inning.

Lady Elkers lose 13-0 to Brockway

Ridgway softball lost 13-0 in five innings to Brockway Monday afternoon at Francis S. Grandinetti Elementary School.
Errors hurt the Lady Elkers in the first inning as Ridgway couldn't get the third out after retiring the first two Brockway hitters in order. Ann Moyer reached on an error as did Savannah Brosky. Brosky's error would score Moyer for the game's first run. Brooke Carlson then launched a 2-run home run to left field for a 3-0 lead for Brockway after one inning.

Retiring Gerber honored at Ridgway wrestling banquet

The Ridgway wrestling banquet usually occurs to celebrate the accomplishments of the team from the recently completed season.
This year's banquet also honored the career of retiring Ridgway wrestling head coach Gary Gerber as it was a time to reflect on his many career highlights Friday night at Aiello Cafe.
"It has been an honor and a privilege to coach this team for all these years," Gerber said. "There are some people in Ridgway that have more money than I do but I am the richest man in Ridgway. I have memories that go back for years."

Ridgway wrestling team honored with banquet

The Ridgway wrestling program was honored with a banquet held Friday night at Aiello Cafe in Ridgway.
Corey Bush was given a plaque commemorating his induction into the Ridgway Wrestling Hall of Fame as he was a 3-time state placewinner. He also won the Bruno Iorfido Memorial Outstanding Wrestler Award.
"He's a coach's dream," Gerber said. "A pleasure to coach, a hard worker. He kept himself under control and worked hard. He is a tremendous kid to coach, he listens. He knew he wanted to be successful from the first time he stepped on the mat in ninth grade and he made it happen."
