WILCOX – The Elk County American Legion Baseball League Championship will come down to one game Wednesday night.
Wilcox evened the best-of-three series with St. Marys after a 6-1 victory Monday night at Jones Township Community Park.
Game 3 of the series will be Wednesday at Berwind Park beginning at 7:30 p.m.
July 10th
ST. MARYS – The St. Marys Legion edged Wilcox 4-3 on Sunday evening at Berwind Park in the first game of a best-of-three championship series for the Elk County American Legion Baseball League title.
Ben Daghir started on the mound for St. Marys, working four innings and giving up four hits, walking one and striking out five. Pat Brennen worked 1 2/3 innings, giving up four hits, walking two and striking out two. Jordan Weinzierl worked the final third of an inning, giving up one hit and striking out one.
July 7th
The Ridgway softball 13-and 14-year-old All-Stars lost 7-3 to St. Marys in action Thursday at the Ridgway Little League fields located along Grant Road.
St. Marys took the lead in the first inning. The St. Marys All-Stars were designated as the visiting team and Jackie Lenze led off the game with a single. Lenze would eventually score the game's first run on a wild pitch. Rachel Stauffer walked with one out and would score on a Ridgway throwing error to make the lead 2-0 for St. Marys after half an inning.
July 6th
DAGUS MINES – Consistent offense and strong pitching led the Wilcox American Legion team to an 11-1 victory at Fox Township to advance to the Elk County Legion League championship series.
Wilcox won the best-of-three series 2-0 after a 12-3 victory on Tuesday night in Wilcox. The championship series will start on Sunday against St. Marys. St. Marys won 14-5 over Bradford.
July 5th
WILCOX – The Wilcox American Legion baseball team opened the Elk County American Legion playoffs with a 12-3 win over Fox Township last night at Jones Township Community Park.
"It's a nice way to start a new season," Wilcox coach Jeff Peterson said. "The rest of the pitching staff will have to pick it up a notch moving forward. Fox is a good team with good pitching and good hitting."
The win puts Wilcox ahead 1-0 in the best-of-three semifinal series. Game 2 is scheduled for tonight at 5:30 p.m. at Fox Township.
July 4th
ST. MARYS – The St. Marys Little League Junior All-Stars used a strong nine-run first inning to set the stage for their victory over the Ridgway Little League All-Stars Sunday afternoon at Memorial Park. After building a large lead, St. Marys’ batters were able to answer Ridgway’s runs and cruised to a 14-4 victory in five innings.
ST. MARYS – The St. Marys 11-12 year old all stars came from behind to beat the Ridgway all stars by a 10-7 score Sunday afternoon at Memorial Park.
Ridgway was leading the contest 7-5 going into the top half of the sixth. St. Marys came up with five runs in that inning to record the 10-7 victory.
St. Marys is in action tonight at 6 p.m. against Punxsutawney. This will be the finals of the loser’s bracket.
June 29th
The Ridgway Major League softball All-Stars lost 20-16 in seven innings to Bradford Wednesday at the Ridgway Little League fields along Grant Road.
ST. MARYS – The St. Marys Legion baseball team ran their record to 12-1 on the season with an 8-6 victory over the Wilcox Legion Wednesday night at Berwind Park.
St. Marys outhit Wilcox by a 15-12 margin. For St. Marys, Ryan Uhl had a double and three singles, while Kevin Hoy had a double and two singles. Ricky Pearsall had three singles, while Luke Daghir had two singles. Ben Daghir, Jordan Weinzierl and Eric Wehler each had a single.
June 28th
The Ridgway Minor League All-Stars lost 12-6 to the Warren Americans Tuesday at the Ridgway Little League fields along Grant Road.
Warren used an 11-run first inning to take the lead, a lead the Americans would ultimately hang on to.
Ridgway, designated as the visiting team in the game, led 1-0 after the first inning as Matt Dush reached and later came around to score.
