JOHNSONBURG â€“ Johnsonburg boys basketball finished the regular season with a 75-36 victory over St. Marys Wednesday night at Johnsonburg Area High School.
JOHNSONBURG â€“ It took less than a quarter for Johnsonburg boys basketball to shake off its second loss of the season.
The Rams had a 15-point lead at the end of the first quarter and built the lead further as the game went on in a 68-29 victory over Brockway Friday night at Johnsonburg Area High School.
The Rams had a 20-2 lead after six minutes of play.
"We got a quick start, got some easy baskets," Johnsonburg coach Bill Shuey said. "The kids were feeling it. I don't know what we shot percentage-wise but I think it was pretty good."
JOHNSONBURG â€“ Kane wrestling won 45-21 in a dual meet at Johnsonburg Area High School Thursday night.
Seth Woolcock won the opening bout by forfeit at 113 pounds for the Wolves for a 6-0 lead. Cody Blankenship then had little trouble in the 120-pound match as he pinned Devin Mann of Johnsonburg in a time of 1:45 which upped the Kane lead to 12-0.
Jon Gelsick scored Kane's third bout in a row as he pinned Johnny Ferragine in a time of 1:05 in the 126-pound weight class.
Ridgway wrestling honored its four seniors before the varsity dual against Smethport which the Hubbers won 42-27 Wednesday night at Ridgway Area High School.
Ridgway's four seniors are Brett Himes, Cortland Smith, John Wildnauer and Zac McKnight.
The Elkers also honored the video operators, Mike Prechtl and Dustin Reed. Senior cheerleaders were also honored. The senior cheerleaders are Logan Feronti, Christine Schauer, Emily Pierce and Tracey Ecklund.
Ridgway had the advantage in the nine matches wrestled on the mat, winning five of those nine bouts.
Ridgway senior Josh Mitchell wasn't interested in playing an overtime period against Johnsonburg.
Mitchell hit a left-handed scoop shot with one second left in the fourth quarter to give Ridgway a 44-42 win over Johnsonburg Tuesday night at Ridgway Area High School.
After a near turnover, Ridgway inbounded the ball with six seconds remaining. Mitchell caught the ball near the 3-point and then drove to his left, hitting a short underhanded scoop shot to put the Elkers ahead by two and send the home crowd into a frenzy.
JOHNSONBURG â€“ The Johnsonburg Rams (17-1) had little trouble Monday as they toppled DuBois Central Catholic (10-11) 75-48 in an Allegheny Mountain League [AML] crossover game.
The Rams were led by juniors Cameron Grumley and Cole Peterson as each scored 17 points in the victory. Seniors Quinn Luhr and Kyle Sheldon followed with 12 and 11 points, respectively, and senior Mitchell Holmberg chipped in eight in the 27-point win.
Ridgway girls basketball lost 48-20 to Brockway in action Monday night at Ridgway Area High School.
Ridgway girls basketball lost 52-27 to Sheffield Friday night at Ridgway Area High School.
Sheffield was paced by sophomore Jen Isenberg who finished with a game-high 27 points. Isenberg started strong with 13 points in the opening eight minutes. After a Hannah Vile bucket opened the game for Sheffield, Isenberg would score seven straight points off a 3-point play and two short field goals to give the Lady Wolverines a 9-0 lead.
JOHNSONBURG â€“ Johnsonburg wrestling won 42-39 in a varsity dual meet over Oswayo Valley Thursday night at Johnsonburg Area High School.
Five matches were wrestled on the mat. Johnsonburg won five matches via forfeit, Oswayo Valley took four.
At 182 pounds, Mitchell Schloder opened up the dual for the Rams with a pinfall victory in 1:54 over Lee Brown of the Green Wave. Schloder led 5-0 after a takedown and three back points before securing the pin.
Ridgway boys basketball used a 17-0 second half run to pull away from the Kane Wolves en route to a 63-43 victory Wednesday night as part of Senior Night.
Kane had kept with the Elkers in the first half and trailed 34-30 entering the third quarter. The Elkers then scored 17 straight points to bulge the lead to 21 past the midpoint of the third quarter.
