The Kane Lady Wolves took advantage of early errors and walks in a 5-2 win Thursday afternoon against the Ridgway Lady Elkers.
The visitors were able to build a small lead early on as Daria Huckabone scored on a Ridgway error as Kaila Jamerson reached safely for an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Triston Hillman followed with a sacrifice fly to center field for a 2-0 advantage.
JOHNSONBURG â€“ Johnsonburg softball lost 12-1 in five innings to Curwensville Monday afternoon at Knothole Area Recreational Park.
After a scoreless first inning, the Lady Tide would take control of the game with a 7-run second inning. Abby Johnson led off the game with a single. Alaina Stiles, Nikki Harker and Tierra Shope all walked, Shope's walked came with the bases loaded to score Johnson for a 1-0 lead.
OHNSONBURG â€“ Johnsonburg starting pitcher Cole Peterson overcame two sloppy early innings Thursday before throwing fireballs past DuBois Central Catholic batters Thursday in a 2-1 win.
Peterson struck out 12 batters in a 5-hit complete game win, at one time retiring nine batters in a row en route to the victory.
Ridgway softball lost 5-0 to a Curwensville on a windy Thursday afternoon at Francis S. Grandinetti Elementary School.
Consistent winds of 15-20 mph were blowing out throughout the game and the Lady Tide were able to take advantage of the wind blowing out in the first inning. Sarah Wriglesworth led off the game by reaching on a Ridgway defensive miscue. Taylor Goodman followed with a bloop single to left. After a Curwensville flyout, cleanup hitter Tiffany Carter launched a 3-run home run to center field which gave the Lady Tide a 3-0 lead after the first inning.
Johnsonburg baseball moved to 3-0 on the season with an 11-0 win in five innings over Ridgway Tuesday afternoon at Sandy Beach Recreational Park.
JOHNSONBURG â€“ Even a steady downpour in the first inning Tuesday afternoon did not deter Ridgway freshman Hollie Schneider as she cruised to a 2-hit 18-2 victory in four innings on the road against Johnsonburg.
"We're happy with Hollie [Schneider] and she did terrific," said Ridgway head varsity softball coach Gary Gerber II. "She only got two thirds of an inning in before getting rained out the last time she went out so it was good to see what she has in her first full game.
"She threw the ball well but she had some mental lapses in the fourth inning."
As the temperature began to cool down, the softball bats began to heat up at Francis S. Grandinetti Elementary School.
Elk County Catholic softball would finish off the game with a 10-run seventh inning en route to a 24-6 win over Ridgway Monday afternoon.
Ridgway boys basketball was honored with a banquet at Francis S. Grandinetti Elementary School.
Varsity head coach Anthony Allegretto presented the awards. Joe Jaques was the scholar-athlete award winner and won the Herbie Lenze Award. Allegretto said he values the scholar-athlete award the most because of the importance of getting an education.
JOHNSONBURG â€“ Johnsonburg boys basketball was honored with a banquet Sunday afternoon at the Johnsonburg Fire Hall to celebrate a historic 30-win season.
Ridgway baseball opened their season with a 7-1 victory over Brockway Monday afternoon at Sandy Beach Recreational Park.
The Elkers led from the first inning on against the Rovers.
