The St. Marys Area Lady Dutch softball team improved to 2-0 on the season as they defeated the Johnsonburg Ramettes 8-0 Monday afternoon at the SMAHS softball field. This was the season opener for the Ramettes.
The Lady Dutch scored at least one run in five of the six innings to record the win.
"This was our third time on a field this season," said St. Marys coach Bill Makufka.
"I thought we played a nice game but we still have the gym rust. We weren't up to game speed," said Makufka.
"I thought (Andria) Copelli threw well and we ran the bases well and had timely hitting," said Makufka.
The Elk Catholic Crusader tennis team improved to 2-1 on their young season with a 9-0 victory over the Johnsonburg Rams in a match played at Memorial and Benzinger Parks on Monday afternoon.
"It was a beautiful day and it was great to get outside and play a full match and some exhibition matches," said ECC head coach Aaron Straub. "It was good to play in relative warm conditions as we will have some tough matches in warm or hot weather, and it is a process to get your body acclimated to those conditions."
Straub added that he thought his squad played well.
