Wilcox Legion falls to Brockway, 11-1

WILCOX – It's small steps of progress for the young Wilcox American Legion baseball team and Wednesday's game proved to be an example of that.
After being held scoreless and without a baserunner in the season opener, Wilcox pushed a run across and had three hits during an 11-1 loss to Brockway at Jones Township Community Park.

Lady Crusaders advance to title game with 7-2 win over DCC

KERSEY — The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusader softball team advanced to the District 9 Class A championship game with a 7-2 victory over the DuBois Central Lady Cardinals Tuesday afternoon at the Fox Township Community Park.
Elk Catholic will now meet Smethport for the District 9-A crown. Smethport eliminated Port Allegany by a 7-3 score Tuesday.
After trailing early, the Lady Crusaders scored four times on four hits and an error in the home half of the third inning to take a lead they would not relinquish.

Unable to rally, ECC falls to Clarion 5-2 in D9-A semifinals

DuBOIS – The Elk County Catholic Crusaders saw their season come to an early end with a 5-2 loss to Clarion on Tuesday night under the lights at Showers Field in DuBois in the District 9 Class A semifinals.

J'Burg finishes with 2 state medalists at PIAA track and field meet

Johnsonburg track and field finished with two state medalists at the conclusion of the PIAA track and field championships Saturday at Shippensburg University.
Ashley Imbrogno finished fourth in javelin with a mark of 135-6. Brooke Hinderliter of Redbank Valley won the title with a mark of 158-9.
Rachel Guyer finished fifth in the 1600 with a time of 5:12:98. Imbrogno took third in the javelin last year at 133-2.

Crusaders defeat North Clarion 14-4 in D9-A quarterfinals

The Elk County Catholic Crusaders picked up their first win of the postseason with a 14-4 five-inning victory over North Clarion on Thursday evening at Berwind Park in the District 9 Class A quarterfinals.
The Crusaders recorded 10 hits in the victory, scoring in each of the four innings they went up to bat. All of North Clarion's hits came in the top of the fourth with ECC already ahead 12-0.
"The bats finally came alive a little bit," said ECC head coach Fr. Eric Vogt.

Johnsonburg baseball edged in playoffs

BUTLER – The Johnsonburg Rams had the pitching and the effort, the Rams couldn't find that one run-scoring hit though.
A third-inning run for Moniteau would stand up for the Warriors as Moniteau defeated Johnsonburg 1-0 Wednesday night at Kelly Automotive Park in Butler in a District 9 Class AA semifinal game.

Ramettes fall in playoffs

CRANBERRY – Patience at the plate led to victory for Cranberry softball over Johnsonburg.
Johnsonburg softball lost 11-1 in five innings to Cranberry in the first round of the District 9 Class AA softball playoffs Tuesday afternoon at Cranberry Area High School.

johnsonburg wins three gold medals at D-9 championships

KANE – Johnsonburg track and field finished Friday with three district champions and four state qualifiers after the conclusion of the District 9 Class AA championships held Friday at Paul R. Miller Stadium in Kane.
For Johnsonburg, Caitlin Viglione won the girls 100-meter dash with a time of 12.49 for her second district title in the 100. Viglione also won her 100-meter heat with a time of 12.78.

Amacher shines at plate, mound in 11-1 win

JOHNSONBURG – It was all Austin Amacher Thursday in Johnsonburg.
On the hill for the Rams, Amacher limited Coudersport to just one unearned run in a five-inning 11-1 win for Johnsonburg.
In addition to his five-strikeout performance, Amacher also delivered at the plate. He reached on an error in the first inning to plate two runs, slapped a two-out double in the fourth for an 8-1 lead, then hit a bases loaded single in the fifth to end the game at 11-1.

Ramettes split doubleheader with Lady Wolves

JOHNSONBURG – Johnsonburg softball split a doubleheader with Kane Thursday afternoon at Francis S. Grandinetti Elementary School in Ridgway.
Kane won the first game 6-5 in eight innings before Johnsonburg took the second game 21-2 in five innings.

The Ridgway Rifle Club will once again host the NRA National Silhouette Championships this coming...
