Ridgway Legion defeats Fox Township 10-5

DAGUS MINES – The Ridgway American Legion baseball team took an early lead in Tuesday night's game at the Fox Township Legion field in Dagus Mines and never looked back, holding on for a 10-5 victory over the Post 511 squad. The game was played in a mix of rain and sunshine, and the only constant was the mud that covered the field.

Wilcox American Legion baseball falls to Bradford

WILCOX – The Wilcox American Legion team lost 13-0 in five innings to Bradford Friday night at Jones Township Community Park.
Bradford scored three runs in the first and fifth innings and had a seven-run second inning.
Wilcox had just one hit in the game, a long Ben Freeburg double to right field.

St. Marys major softball all stars defeat Elk County

KERSEY – The St. Marys Little League Softball major league all stars kept their season alive Friday evening with a 12-0 five-inning victory over Elk County in a contest played at Fox Township Community Park.
The St. Marys team scored four runs in the first, six in the third, and two in the fifth en route to the victory.
Brianna Grotzinger went the distance in the circle for St. Marys, giving up two hits, walking one, and striking out six in the shutout.

Ridgway Legion baseball strands 16 runners in 4-1 defeat

Ridgway Legion had the baserunners and the hits against Bradford.
Just not that clutch hit to sway the outcome.
Ridgway left the bases loaded three times and stranded 16 runners for the game in a 4-1 loss to Bradford Wednesday night at Sandy Beach Recreational Park.
"Sixteen runners left on. Three times with the bases loaded," Ridgway coach Ryan LaBenne said. "You can't win games if you can't score. That was the key."

St. Marys Legion downs Wilcox, 14-2

WILCOX – A strong start in the first two innings allowed St. Marys to take a 14-2, five-inning win over Wilcox in American Legion Baseball action Friday evening at Jones Township Community Park.
St. Marys scored five runs in the first inning and six more in the second to take an 11-0 lead after two innings. St. Marys finished with eight hits for the game but the team took advantage of being walked 15 times by Wilcox pitching.

Peterson drives in two in Olean win

Johnsonburg native Cole Peterson drove in a pair of runs in a 7-3 win for the Olean Oilers of the New York Collegiate Baseball League (NYCBL) over the Wellsville Nitros Sunday afternoon.
Peterson went 1 for 4 from the leadoff spot in the order and also walked once. Peterson also added two stolen bases, bringing his total to five for the season. Peterson assisted on five plays from his shortstop position and has 36 on the season to this point.

Lady Crusader softball wins PIAA Class A Championship

UNIVERSITY PARK — STATE CHAMPS.
The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusader softball team captured the 2015 PIAA Class A Softball championship Friday afternoon at Beard Field at Nittany Lion Softball Park on the campus of Penn State University by defeating the Conemaugh Valley Lady Blue Jays 7-0.
Abbey Bauer threw a no-hitter for Elk Catholic. She went all seven innings walking two, hitting one and striking out five.
"Abbey (Bauer) threw a great game and the defense behind her played extremely well," said ECCHS coach Digger O'Dell.

Wilcox American Legion baseball falls to Fox Township, 16-2

WILCOX – The Fox Township American Legion baseball team won 16-2 over Wilcox Thursday night at Jones Township Community Park.
Fox Township scored in six of the seven innings and capped things with a seven-run seventh inning.

Lady Crusaders to play for PIAA Class A Championship

SLIPPERY ROCK — The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders will be playing for the PIAA Class A Softball Championship Friday afternoon at 3 p.m. at the Nittiany Lion Softball Park at Penn State.
The Lady Crusaders didn't use a walk-off this time but they came up with a 2-1 victory over the Cochranton Cardinals Tuesday at Slippery Rock University.

Lady Crusaders advance with 3-2 nine-inning win

BROCKWAY — For the third consecutive game, the Elk County Catholic Lady Crusader softball team has used a walk-off to keep them on the road to State College.
Thursday afternoon at Brockway High School, a single by Sophie Viglione in the bottom of the ninth scored Jessica Tettis from third base to give Elk Catholic a 3-2 win over District 6 champ West Branch.

The Ridgway Rifle Club will once again host the NRA National Silhouette Championships this coming...
