ST. MARYS â€“ Lady Crusader senior Kirstie Wehler recorded the 1,000th kill of her high school volleyball career on Thursday evening as the ECC squad defeated the Brockway Lady Rovers in three sets in a match played at the ECCHS gymnasium. ECC rallied to win the first set 25-23, and then had smoother sailing in the next two sets, winning 25-8 and 25-13, respectively.
ECC head coach Diane Gies cited improvement with her team's serves as an example of the progress the squad has been making.
JOHNSONBURG â€“ The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusader tennis team defeated the Johnsonburg Ramettes by a 7-2 score in a match played at Johnsonburg Thursday.
â€śItâ€™s always an enjoyable experience when we play a match against Johnsonburg. All of their players are incredibly nice, they have a great coaching staff, and they always play really good tennis,â€ť said ECCHS coach Pete Meier.
St. Marys girls soccer used a pair of first-half goals for a 2-0 victory over Ridgway in action Wednesday afternoon at Francis S. Grandinetti Elementary School.
â€śIt was just better execution and intensity,â€ť St. Marys coach Eric Bridges said. â€śThe girls came out with the right degree of enthusiasm and teamwork. The fundamentals have always been there, itâ€™s just today it jelled, it came together. We worked cohesively as a team and it paid off.â€ť
Ridgway girls golf was the host of an AML match held Wednesday afternoon at Laurel Mill Golf Club.
Katie Thompson finished with a 64 for the Lady Elkers while Shania Reitz carded a 70.
KANE â€“ The Kane High boys soccer team hosted Ridgway Tuesday in a match that featured plenty of back-and-forth action and lots and lots of goals.
Ridgway prevailed 8-5 as senior Justin Kinkead scored five goals to lead the Elkers to their fourth win in five matches in the past seven days.
Ridgway boys golf won 202-207 over Elk County Catholic in action Tuesday afternoon at Laurel Mill Golf Club.
TJ Schlimm of Ridgway and Mitchell Struble of ECC were the co-medalists with cards of 37.
Ridgway volleyball lost 3-0 (25-15, 25-16, 26-24) to Bradford Tuesday evening at Ridgway Area High School.
Even with the 3-0 defeat, Ridgway coach Janet Redmond said the Lady Elkers played a much-improved match, and their best match of the season.
Ridgway girls soccer opened with the lead in the first minute of the match and never looked back in an 8-1 victory over the Kane Lady Wolves Monday afternoon at Francis S. Grandinetti Elementary School.

After a 3-0 loss to Sheffield Tuesday evening, Johnsonburg rallied after a first-set loss for a 3-1 (15-25, 25-10, 25-14, 25-22) victory over Ridgway Thursday evening at Johnsonburg Area High School.
