When Bruno Iorfido volunteered to help out at a wrestling camp that former Pitt-Johnstown teammates Isaac Greeley and Aaron Rendos were running in Port Allegany in June 2003, the future seemed set for the UPJ star.
A three-time Academic All-American who finished eighth at that year's NCAA Division II championships as a junior, Iorfido would shoot for the top of the podium in his senior year before returning to his hometown of Ridgway, where he'd won four consecutive District 9 titles as an Elker, to teach and coach at his alma mater.
The Bradford American Legion baseball team won 10-1 over Ridgway in action Monday evening at Sandy Beach Recreational Park.
After two scoreless innings, Bradford opened the scoring with a run in the third. Hunter Dixon reached on a one-out bloop single and went to second on a poor pickoff throw by Ridgway. Mike Wilber reached on an infield single to put runners at the corners and John Obermeyer followed up with a sacrifice fly to score Dixon and give Bradford a 1-0 lead.
The St. Marys Little League Softball Senior All-Stars advanced to the finals of the District 10 Senior Tournament with a 12-2, five-inning victory over the Elk County squad Monday night at Benzinger Park.
St. Marys used the one-hit pitching of Sydney Hoffman to record the win. Hoffman went the distance for St. Marys giving up one hit, walking two and striking out nine.
Two huge innings helped propel the Elk County Senior League All-Stars to a 22-10 victory over Smethport/Mt. Jewett in District 10 softball tournament action Saturday afternoon at the Ridgway Little League fields along Grant Road.
Elk County scored seven runs in the second inning and nine in the seventh. Overall, Elk County finished the game with 19 hits.
WILCOX â€“ DuBois took advantage of several costly mistakes Saturday afternoon in a 6-3 win over the Elk County All-Stars in the Junior League.
Down 2-0 early in the game, DuBois got three runs with two outs in the home half of the second inning to take the lead.
Jack Mohney worked a two-out walk to put a runner on base, and Buddy Lines followed with a single to left center field to put runners at the corners. A bloop single from Coy Donahue to center field, just past the shortstop's glove, plated Mohney and cut the lead to a run.

Wilcox had some timely hits and dominant pitching as the American Legion team won 6-0 over Brockway Sunday afternoon at Jones Township Community Park.
JOHNSONBURG â€“ The second time playing at Knothole Area Recreational Park did the trick for the Elk County Major League baseball All-Stars Friday night.
Playing their second straight home game, Elk County picked up a 10-3 victory over Smethport/Mt. Jewett to advance forward in the consolation bracket of the District 10 tournament.
JOHNSONBURG â€“ The Elk County Minor League (9- and 10-year-olds) All-Stars lost 9-5 to DuBois Tuesday evening at Knothole Area Recreational Park in the opening round of the District 10 Little League Tournament.
The Elk County Major League All-Star Team (11- and 12-year-olds) won their first game of the all-star tournament 18-5 when they traveled to Brockway Monday night.
ST. MARYS â€“ The St. Marys American Legion Post 103 team hosted Wilcox for a doubleheader on Monday at Berwind Park, with the teams splitting the victories. St. Marys won the first game in a 12-0 shutout while Wilcox claimed an 11-6 victory in the second game.
