Hailey Hoffman wins all-around for Ridgway

Ridgway’s gymnastics season opened with an all-around individual victory.
Hailey Hoffman picked up the all-around win and three out of four event wins during Ridgway’s meet against St. Marys Wednesday night at Francis S. Grandinetti Elementary School.

Crusaders open season with win over Rams

The Elk County Catholic Crusaders opened their 2014-2015 campaign with a 72-33 victory over the Johnsonburg Rams on Tuesday night at the ECCHS gymnasium.
"I'm happy with the win, happy to start this way," said ECC head coach Aaron Straub.
The Crusaders held a 20-5 lead at the end of the first quarter and were up 32-17 at the break. At the end of three quarters they had extended that lead to 56-25.

Lady Elkers fall to DCC

Ridgway girls basketball lost 73-45 to DuBois Central Catholic Tuesday night at Ridgway Area High School in the Lady Elkers' home opener.
Ridgway had three players finish in double figures in scoring. Jessica Kifer had a team-high 13 points while Hannah Park had 11 points and Emily Fullem finished with 10. The 45 team points are the most scored in a game under third-year head coach Stacy Kifer.

Shorthanded Rams fall to Red Raider wrestlers

JOHNSONBURG – The Johnsonburg Rams wrestling team managed just one win in five matches wrestled on the mat Tuesday night against visiting Cameron County.
Handcuffed with a shorthanded lineup, the Rams were forced to forfeit eight matches en route to a 65-6 loss. Joey Elinski got the lone win for Johnsonburg, scoring a fall in the 145-pound bout against Parker Lumley.
"Joey Elinski was wrestling pretty tough, he's 4-2 now in his first year wrestling," said Johnsonburg head varsity wrestling coach Mike Votano.

Dallas used the 3rd quarter to put this game out of reach. After a tightly contested
first half the score was 14-7 in Dallas’ favor. Dallas was able to use an early
second half turnover to score a 24 yard touchdown pass from Tony Romo to Cole
Beasley. They used great field position to tack on 2 more touchdowns before the end
of the 3rd quarter to make the score 35-7. Chicago made the game somewhat close
thanks to a 21 point fourth quarter of their own, but it was too little, too late.

Experienced leaders help Ridgway edge Red Raiders

Ridgway's leadership steered the Elkers to victory over the Red Raiders.
Jeremy Breier and Ben MacDonald combined for all 19 Ridgway points in the fourth quarter as the Elkers won 44-40 over Cameron County Monday night at Ridgway Area High School.

Myers' 20 points leads Ramettes to win

JOHNSONBURG – The Ramettes were unable to take the lead Monday night until the last minute of the game. It ended up being more than enough time to earn the win.
The Ramettes staged a furious fourth-quarter rally Monday night, erasing an 11-point deficit to take a 49-46 win over visiting Sheffield.
It was the Johnsonburg girls basketball team's first game of the season, and fittingly not just their first win of the year, but also the first of new head coach Ellie Kocjancic's career from the bench.

It wasn't perfect, but it was more than enough for Ridgway to win Friday's season opener.
The defending District 9 Class A champions opened the 2014-2015 season with a 56-19 victory over Smethport Friday night at Ridgway Area High School.
"It's a good way to open the season," Ridgway coach Anthony Allegretto said. "The Smethport kids are starting up a new program, it seems like. They played hard, their coach was very positive with them. They played hard, they played clean. They were lacking the shooting and the ball-handling to handle the press."

Lady Crusaders open season with win over Ridgway

The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusader basketball team opened their season at home on Friday by hosting the Ridgway Lady Elkers. Elk Catholic came away with a 54-22 victory.
The Lady Crusaders opened an 11-2 first period lead and outscored the Lady Elkers 15-11 in the second quarter to open a 26-13 halftime advantage.
ECC outscored Ridgway 28-9 in the second half to record the victory.
