JOHNSONBURG â€“ The Johnsonburg Ramettes ended their season on a positive note with an 8-1 victory on the tennis courts Thursday against visiting Bradford.
At No. 1 singles, Johnsonburg's Riley Fannin defeated Hannah Burgoon 8-5; at No. 2 singles, Ashley Stolz got Bradford on the board with an 8-2 win over Cheyenne Johnson; at No. 3 singles, Paige Martonik won 8-0 over Mary Schroll; at No. 4 singles, Olivia Perez-McGill won 8-1 over Katelyn Wells; at No. 5 singles, Andrea Allegretto won 8-3 over Mandi Droney.
JOHNSONBURG â€“ Johnsonburg volleyball won 3-1 (25-17, 26-24, 22-25, 28-26) over Ridgway Monday night in a match held at Johnsonburg Area High School.
Ridgway won the third set to send the match to a fourth set and the Lady Elkers took the momentum early, scoring six of first eight points. At 9-5, Ridgway scored five straight points as Johnsonburg had trouble returning serve. A Sierra Kos had the Ridgway lead up to nine at 14-5 in the fourth set.
The Elk County Catholic Crusader football team had their homecoming game on Saturday afternoon at Dutch Country Stadium, losing 35-7 to the Kane Wolves to fall to 0-6 on the season.
"We had some things going there. We made some mistakes," said ECC head coach Tony Gerg. "I wish we could have had a better showing for homecoming."
The Wolves scored 14 in the first quarter and 21 in the second to lead 35-0 at halftime. The Crusaders' lone touchdown came midway through the fourth quarter.
Ridgway football had their 2-game winning streak snapped as the Elkers lost 42-0 to Allegany High School out of Cumberland, Md. Friday night at Memorial Field in Ridgway.
Allegany led from the first play on and scored 28 points in the second half to put the game out of reach.
Ridgway volleyball had little trouble in a 3-0 (25-15, 25-10, 25-6) win over DuBois Central Catholic Thursday night at Ridgway Area High School.
After giving up the team's first goal in six matches, the Lady Elkers made sure to take control of Wednesdayâ€™s match from Port Allegany.
Ridgway scored four consecutive goals in the second half to blow open a 1-goal lead into a 6-1 Lady Elker win over the Lady Gators Wednesday afternoon at Francis S. Grandinetti Elementary School.

BRADFORD â€“ A trio of area golfers have qualified for the PIAA Western Regional Golf Championships after the conclusion of the District 9 boys golf individual championships Saturday at The Pennhills Club in Bradford.
Elliott Struble of Elk County Catholic finished second for the second straight year as he finished with a two-day total of 154 (76-78). Cameron Grumley of Johnsonburg tied for third with a total score of 156 (79-77).
TJ Schlimm of Ridgway finished tied for sixth with a score of 159 (78-81).
BROCKWAY â€“ For Ridgway football, it was a win more than a decade in the making.
Ridgway won 40-20 over Brockway Friday night at Frank Varischetti Field for the Elkers' first win over the Rovers since 1999.
It might have been the long way to victory but in the end, it was a Lady Elker volleyball victory.
After falling behind 2-1, Ridgway won the final two sets to take a 3-2 victory (25-16, 21-25, 23-25, 25-19, 16-14) over Curwensville Thursday night at Ridgway Area High School.
