KNOX â€“ Keystone softball rallied with a 4-run seventh inning to win 8-7 over Ridgway in the first round of the District 9 Class A softball playoffs held Monday afternoon at Keystone High School.
KANE â€“ Johnsonburg track and field will be sending multiple athletes to the PIAA Track and Field Championships after the District 9 Championships held Friday at Paul R. Miller Stadium in Kane.
Gabbi Benninger broke the Ridgway triple jump and qualified for states with her triple jump mark of 37-10.5.
Lanae Newsome of Brookville broke the D-9 meet record with her mark of 40-3.5 in triple jump. Newsome also broke her own 100-meter dash record with a time of 12.38 to win that event.
Ridgway baseball won their second game in as many days with a 10-4 win over Curwensville Wednesday afternoon at Sandy Beach Recreational Park.
"Coming off of that win [Tuesday] night, you weren't going to know what to expect because you're turning around and playing roughly less than 24 hours later," Ridgway coach Mark Morelli said.
The Ridgway Elkers handed the St. Marys Area Flying Dutchmen a 10-2 loss Tuesday night at Berwind Park on SMA's Senior Night.
The Dutch seniors and their parents were recognized prior to the start of the varsity game.
The contest was tied at two going into the seventh inning. The Elkers came up with eight runs on five hits in the top half of the seventh inning to open a 10-2 lead.
"We had a rough first inning," said Ridgway coach Mark Morelli. "We haven't played in a week and we had a little rust to shake off."
JOHNSONBURG â€” The St. Marys Area Flying Dutch and the Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders captured their respective Elk County Track and Field Championship Thursday afternoon at the championship meet held at the Johnsonburg Track and Field complex.
The Dutchmen won the boys' title with 82 points. Elk Catholic was second with 59 points while the Johnsonburg team finished with 48.
It was a day for the hitters at Sandy Beach Recreational Park Monday as DuBois Central Catholic baseball was able to defeat Ridgway 13-10.
DCC finished with 13 hits while Ridgway tallied 12.
The St. Marys Lady Dutch won the Elk County Softball Tournament, finishing the tournament with an 8-3 win over Elk County Catholic in the championship game held Friday at Francis S. Grandinetti Elementary School in Ridgway.
Ridgway softball lost 8-4 against Brockway in action Thursday at Francis S. Grandinetti Elementary School.
Ridgway starter Austin Amacher did his part against his former teammates to help the Elkers stay in the game.
The bats did their part in the sixth inning.
A 3-run sixth inning was enough to give Ridgway baseball a 3-1 win over Elk County Catholic Tuesday afternoon at Sandy Beach Recreational Park.
Johnsonburg baseball swept a doubleheader, downing Kane 11-1 in six innings and Curwensville 14-1 in five innings during action Saturday at Knothole Area Recreational Park.
