JOHNSONBURG â€“ Some of the players were different Tuesday night but the result was still the same for the Johnsonburg Rams.
Fueled by two 24-point performances from seniors Cameron Grumley and Cole Peterson, the Rams registered their 10th straight win over visiting Elk County Catholic, 63-58.
Brockway wrestling won 35-27 over Ridgway Tuesday night at Ridgway Area High School in the home opener for the Elkers.
Brockway won six of the nine matches wrestled on the mat. The Rovers received two forfeits while the Elkers received one. Two weights had no match.
It may be a new season and a new starting lineup for Ridgway boys basketball but it was a familiar result for the Elkers.
Ridgway boys basketball opened the season with a 69-26 victory over Smethport Friday night at Ridgway Area High School on the first night of the 2013-2014 winter sports season.
JOHNSONBURG â€“ The Johnsonburg Ramettes started the season on the right foot Friday, overcoming a slow start to upend visiting Cameron County 48-42.
The first game of the season also marked the first varsity win for first-year head coach Crystal Galsick. Johnsonburg was led by the tough combination of Chelsea Benson, who scored 26 points, and Kassa Kocjancic, who added 14 in the winning effort.
One major accomplishment has Ridgway quarterback/safety Ben MacDonald in rare company.
Ridgway head coach Mark Heindl said MacDonald was named to the Big 30 team as a junior, one of only five Ridgway football players in the programâ€™s history to be named to the team before their senior season.
The Upper Allegheny Valley Soccer League recently released their all-stars and final standings for the 2013 season. Three players from ECC - Corey Koss, Emma Daghir, and Erin Petrosky - and two from SMA - Tim Mosebarger and Holly Shields - were named to their respective all-star teams.
Ridgway won the Girls North division with an 8-0 record followed by Port Allegany 5-3, St. Marys Area 5-3, Kane Area 2-6, and Smethport Area 0-8.
JOHNSONBURG â€“ Johnsonburg cross country held a banquet for the team Saturday night at the Kopper Kettle.
Pam Anderson expressed appreciation to the Johnsonburg Area School District and school board as well as superintendent Dennis Crotzer, high school principal Brock Benson and athletic director Emily Mitchell.
The Ridgway volleyball team was honored with a banquet last Thursday night at Francis S. Grandinetti Elementary School.
Ridgway varsity head coach Janet Redmond introduced all of the players. Jenna Hoffman won the Defensive MVP award, the Jacqueline Renaud award and the overall MVP award. Hoffman had 121 serving points with 96 digs and four kills. Redmond told the story of Hoffman getting a back row kill from the libero position for the winning point against Sheffield in the final match of the season.
JOHNSONBURG â€“ Members of the Johnsonburg volleyball program, and parents and relatives gathered recently to celebrate the 2013 season and pay tribute to the program's two departing seniors, Chelsea Benson and Emily Dubler.
Ridgway junior high football held a banquet for the team last Monday night at Aiello Cafe in Ridgway.
Junior high football head coach Brian Hinton welcome everyone and acknowledged everyone in attendance for a great season.
"I want to [acknowledge] you for a successful season," Hinton said. "Just a phenomenal start and a phenomenal finish to the season. It was an honor to coach these 46 fine young gentlemen. Weâ€™re sad to see the season come to the end."
