ST. MARYS â€“ St. Marys Area Lady Dutch senior Adair Gennocro became the school's newest 1,000 point scorer on Monday evening as the Lady Dutch picked up a 42-10 victory over the Ridgway Lady Elkers at the SMAHS Dutch Oven. Gennocro entered the game needing just three points to reach the 1,000 mark and achieved that honor near the end of the opening quarter. She was 1-for-2 from the foul line with 2:29 left before the end of the quarter and then sank a field goal to score the final two points with 1:48 remaining.
JOHNSONBURG â€“ Lights out.
After the Johnsonburg Rams (13-1) stormed the floor to pre-game introductions complete with spotlight theatrics in a dark gymnasium, the show continued as they shot lights out for an extensive early lead, and eventually prevailed in a 49-29 win Friday night over visiting Ridgway (11-3).
Johnsonburg girls basketball won 59-14 over Ridgway Friday night at Ridgway Area High School.
Johnsonburg had a balanced scoring attack with Chelsea Benson leading the way with 13 points. Brittany Watts and Kathryn Polaski had 10 points and Rhianon Fowler had nine points.
"We worked on a couple plays," Johnsonburg coach Mike Zilkofski said. "The press worked well for us. We needed a little work on that and it helped."
Ridgway gymnastics hosted Bellefonte in a meet held Wednesday night at Francis S. Grandinetti Elementary School.
Bellefonte topped Ridgway in the team score. Bellefonte scored 109.975 team points while Ridgway had 97.95 team points.
"You know when they're getting better when they're not happy with their score because they want more," Ridgway coach Edna Maddalena said. "That's always a positive for a coach."
Ridgway wrestling won 37-23 over Oswayo Valley Tuesday night at Ridgway Area High School.
Only six matches were wrestled on the mat with each team winning three bouts. Ridgway won four matches via forfeit while Oswayo Valley only won one match via forfeit which would be a difference in the Elkers winning the dual.
JOHNSONBURG â€“ With a 10-3 record at the midpoint of the regular season, the Johnsonburg Ramettes continued their upward climb Tuesday night with a 51-25 win over visiting Brockway.
The Ramettes had four players in double figures as senior Rhianon Fowler paced all scorers with 12 points; she was complemented by juniors Chelsea Benson and Kassa Kocjancic, who both tallied 11 points apiece, and fellow senior Brittany Watts, who chipped in 10 points on the night.
JOHNSONBURG â€“Â Johnsonburg boys basketball had little trouble against an overmatched Brookville team, finishing the Raiders off early in a 66-31 victory Monday night at Johnsonburg Area High School.
Johnsonburg had a 10-2 lead after the first three minutes and went on to lead 27-6 after the first quarter.
The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders raised their District 9 League record to 2-1 with a 39-32 victory over the St. Marys Area Lady Dutch Saturday night at the ECCHS gym.
After the Lady Dutch had taken a 20-17 halftime lead, the Lady Crusaders went on a 12-0 run to open a 32-20 lead with 4:42 left in the third period. The Lady Dutch responded with a 6-0 run of their own to close out the period but Elk outscored St. Marys 7-4 in the fourth quarter to win the game.
KANE â€“ The Kane Wolves played with the Ridgway Elkers for a quarter but the Elkers outscored the Wolves 16-5 in the second quarter and cruised to the 62-35 victory in the Wolvesâ€™ Den on Friday night.
Both teams had trouble getting the ball in the hoop early in the game. Ridgwayâ€™s leading scorer, Jesse Reynolds, had the first basket at the two-minute mark when he sliced through the lane for two. Kevin Cleer knocked down a three for the Wolves that gave the home team a 6-4 lead, which ended up being the last lead they had in the game.
Coming into Friday night's game, the focus was on Kane senior Kaila Jamerson surpassing the 1,000 point mark for her career.
Less than two minutes into the game, mission accomplished for Jamerson.
Jamerson finished with a game-high 16 points as Kane had little trouble in a 55-13 victory over Ridgway Friday night at Ridgway Area High School.
