July 22nd
ST. MARYS – It was a grand way for Josh Mitchell and the Wilcox American Legion baseball team to open the Region 8 tournament.
Mitchell hit a third-inning grand slam and drove in six total runs as Wilcox won 11-3 over French Creek Valley in the tournament opener Saturday morning at Berwind Park in St. Marys.
July 17th
WILCOX – Make it back-to-back Elk County American Legion baseball titles for Wilcox.
Wilcox won the Elk County American Legion Baseball League championship for a second straight year after an 8-1 victory over Fox Township Tuesday night at Jones Township Community Park in the championship game of the league playoffs.
July 16th
WILCOX – The Fox Township American Legion baseball team forced a championship game with Wilcox in the Elk County American Legion Baseball League after a 5-2 victory Monday night at Jones Township Community Park.
The deciding game for the league title and a berth in the Region 8 tournament will be at 5:30 p.m. tonight and will again be at Jones Township Community Park.
July 15th
The Fox Township Amerian Legion Post 511 baseball team earned a trip to the Elk County League championship game with a hard-fought 8-6 victory over St. Marys on Saturday night at Berwind Park.
July 12th
WILCOX – The Wilcox American Legion baseball team advanced to the championship round of the Elk County American Legion Baseball Tournament with a 10-0, 6-inning victory over St. Marys Thursday night at Jones Township Community Park.
Wilcox used a trio of 3-run innings along with a run in the fourth to take care of St. Marys.
July 10th
The St. Marys junior league all-stars advanced in the District 10 tournament with a 12-6 victory over Ridgway Tuesday night at the Ridgway Little League fields along Grant Road.
Nate DaCanal and Joe Nasoni both opened the game by being hit by a pitch to put two runners on. Ross Brennen doubled both runners home for the game's first two runs. Brennen would later cross the plate as Dalton Bauer grounded out to first.
July 9th
WILCOX – From the beginning of Monday's game, Smethport was overmatched and Cole Peterson was spectacular.
Peterson threw a no-hitter against Smethport in an 8-0 win in a winner's bracket game of the Elk County American Legion baseball playoffs.
Smethport had just one baserunner for the game and it came with two outs in the seventh inning as Zach Smith drew a walk which prevented a perfect game.
July 8th
BROOKVILLE – The Ridgway minor league all-stars had its District 10 tournament run come to an end after an 18-4, 4-inning loss to Brookville Saturday afternoon at the Brookville Area Little League complex.
The game was payed under sweltering conditions with temperatures at approximately 95 degrees with the heat and humidity contributing to storms which delayed the start of the game and another set which led to a second-inning delay.
July 6th
The Ridgway minor league all-stars lost Game 1 of the District 10 North/South championship series by a 14-3 margin in five innings to Brookville Friday night at the Ridgway Little league fields.
Brookville was spurred on by 7-run innings in the third and fifth innings to take the 1-0 lead in the best-of-three series which will determine the District 10 minor league champion. Game 2 is scheduled for 4 p.m. this afternoon in Brookville. If Ridgway wins Game 2, Game 3 is scheduled for Sunday with information to be announced.
July 4th
The Ridgway minor league all-stars once again had the game in doubt until the final pitch.
Once again, Ridgway survived a final-inning rally victorious.
A third straight close call gave the Ridgway 9- and 10-year-olds the D-10 North Division title and a chance to play for the D-10 title outright with a 13-12 victory over Bradford Tuesday night at the Ridgway Little League fields along Grant Road.
