COUDERSPORT – Whoever says Johnsonburg's varsity football program is dead may be very wrong indeed.
The Rams (1-2) used a series of defensive stops in the fourth quarter Friday night to knock off Coudersport (1-2) in a 22-14 upset in a steady rainfall, the program's first victory since a 41-0 win at home on Oct. 8, 2010 against Ridgway, the last win of former head coach Tom Launer before his untimely death six months later.
Port Allegany's run through the AML South continues as the Gators won 55-14 over Ridgway Friday night at Memorial Field.
"They are a good football team," Ridgway coach Mark Heindl said. "You cannot take anything away from our kids, they did not quit. They left everything out on the field. Port Allegany came in, they got that big lead in the first quarter, 21-0 but our kids did not fold their tents. Our goal in the second half was to win that, we came out and won the second half. We'll take that momentum into next week."
