JOHNSONBURG – The Rams used a 1-2 pitching combination of Cole Peterson and Mitchell Holmberg to combine on a 3-hit shutout Friday as Johnsonburg toppled visiting Otto-Eldred, 7-0.
Peterson started the first two innings and scattered one hit and one walk while striking out six batters before leaving with a 1-0 lead. He turned the ball over to Holmberg who pitched three innings of shutout ball with four strikeouts.
Peterson would return to the mound in the sixth inning and scattered another hit in two innings of work but secured the shutout win.
JOHNSONBURG – After taking a 2-0 lead, Johnsonburg softball could not hold off Otto-Eldred as the Lady Terrors won 8-2 over the Ramettes Friday afternoon at Knothole Area Recreational Park.
The Elk County Catholic Crusader baseball squad took an early lead and used good defense to pick up a 4-2 victory over cross-town rival St. Marys Area on Friday afternoon at Berwind Park.
"[It was a] tough one to take," said St. Marys Area coach Tony Azzato. "[We gave up] three unearned runs."
Brandon Schlimm started on the mound for the Crusaders, working six innings and giving up three hits, walking three, and striking out eight. Ben Cortina worked the final inning in relief, walking one.
