After two years of losing in the district quarterfinal, Ridgway boys basketball can say it's over the hump and among District 9's final four.
Ridgway used a strong last 2:40 of the third quarter to create some distance from Sheffield en route to a 65-48 victory over the Wolverines Friday night in the District 9 Class boys basketball quarterfinal held at Ridgway Area High School.
JOHNSONBURG – The visiting Coudersport Falcons stuck around late in the third quarter Friday night before the Johnsonburg Rams whipped the visitors late in the game for a 54-37 win in the quarterfinal round of the District 9 Class A playoffs.
The Rams will now play Elk County Catholic on Tuesday; it will be the fourth meeting of the teams this season.
Johnsonburg, paced by a 17-point performance by sophomore Cameron Grumley, got off to a lackadaisical start and had difficulty shaking the Falcons until late in the game.
RIMERSBURG – A poster board hanging on the wall in the gymnasium at Union High School reads "We love the game because every dribble, shot, or pass is an opportunity for disaster or glory." The former was true for the #2 seeded Union Knights on Friday evening as they struggled to get any momentum going and saw their season come to an end, while the latter was true for the #7 seeded Elk County Catholic Crusaders as they led all the way to take a 59-38 win and advance to the semifinals of the District 9 Class A playoffs.
